Loads for a 30BR

I am shooting 118s from BIB and I have some H4198. I have seen a couple loads online from 6mmbr.com but I was wondering what others were putting together. My gun was built by Ronnie Long.

I am looking for a few good starting points to work up for my own loads.

Update... 7 ogive.

I plan on starting right on the lands.

Cold weather loads 40-85 degrees..you can load as much as you can get in the case, but groups will tell you what the barrel likes...I have several friends that shoot 33.5 grn of H-4198 with the Cheeks 118 grain bullets...in really hot weather 90+ degrees my favorite load is 36.5 grains of H322...

8) Nice group, Dave!

Don't overlook H-322 (Extreme) - lower MVs, but, with a case FULL usually shoots GREAT; it's much denser than the H-4198, so you can get more weight in the same volume. Some Lots of RL-7 also work well . . . and if you can find a stash, Nobel-Sport, Tubal-2000, nab it. :o

Other [often decent] options are N-130, Benchmark, and just about anything in this burn-rate area - most powders in this vicinity are too "bulky" to achieve the pressure required to produce consistently GREAT results. On the faster side, both H-4227 (discontinued?), and N-120 often produce very small AGGS, but with these two, it is possible, at somewhat less than optimum case-fill, to create seriously excessive pressures, which is difficult with most Lots of the previous listings: with these, one must, "watch his Ps and Qs".

In the end, when it comes to consistent, Lot-to-Lot/day-to-day Agging performance, for the BR case capacity and 30 caliber expansion-ratio, H-4198 (extreme) is tough to beat. ;) RG

RG, Have some Tubal 2000. Any suggested loads for 110-115 grain bullets? Thanks.

John, with my Lot, I began at 32.0 Gr., and worked up in 0.5 Gr. increments - performance (grouping) is similar to my Lot of H-4198. RG

34 grs. of H4198 with the 115 Bergers shows potential in a new Krieger 24" 17 twist. Also does well with the 117 Fowlers, but so far, the Bergers just a tiny bit better. Started at 33 & worked up to 34.4. Groups got smaller and above 34 started to open up.

Are you guys jamin or jumpin the 115-118 bullets?

I know guns are like women!

thanks Link

Most everybody I know puts them pretty seriously into the rifling.
Get a cease fire before commence fire and there are usually several
with a bullet stuck in the rifling.

But your other comment:

I know guns are like women!

No they're not.

A real woman is a mans best friend.
She will never stand him up and never let him down.
She will reassure him when he feels insecure and
comfort him after a bad day.
She will inspire him to do the things he never
thought he could do; to live without fear or regret.
She will enable him to express his deepest emotions and
give in to his most intimate desires.
She will ensure he always feels that he is the most handsome
man in the world and will enable him to be the confident,
sexy, seductive and invincible.

No, wait. Sorry. I was thinking of whiskey.
It's whiskey that does all that shit.
Never mind.

:D 8) Yer killin' me, Dave! ;D RG
