Loading for Accuracy: Ruger 77/357 .357 Magnum

I had a 77/44 that was a 3” gun, maybe worse. Put bore scope in it. Shocked that I could see every hammer mark. Barrel was full of rings in the bore. Bought dead soft lead bullets. Pressed in lapping compound. Shot 650 FPS until bore smoothed out. Easy 1 1/2” gun after that.

Bolt action .357? Where has that been all my life? Guess I need to keep up with industry stuff more, even if I can't afford any of it. I'm still lusting after a Remington 788 in .44 Mag. They're collectible these days, though, and not for the likes of me.

For those of you not crimping, are yall not flaring the case mouths, or just hardly flaring at all? I've never not crimped a straight wall cartridge.

You can “crimp” just enough to straighten the case out without actually crimping. That’s what I’ve done at least.
