Loading 45/70 cartridges with 45/90 dies?

You will probably not be able to crimp your bullets due to the die being too long. If you are shooting black powder in a single shot, a crimp may not be desireable. If you are shooting this in a Winchester 1886, Marlin 1895, or converted Winchester 71 you will need to crimp regardless of what type powder you use.

You're best bet would be to get a new die set, although you may be able to get by with what you have.

+1 using a 454 casull crimp die will probably not work. I would think if it did crimp your cases it would be excessive or it may collapse your cases.
