LnL press varying shoulder bump

PRIMER not getting enough hit with the long headspace. Pull those bullets out a little and reseat to a slight jam length. All the "bad" primers didn't just magically end up in the short head spaced cases.
Other possibility could be wet powder if you washed the cases to clean?

Happened to me in the 1980s. Dillons shell plate on an RL-450.

All depends on what station of the shell plate the FL die is set up on. I was getting .014" shoulder set back at 1 station.

Deck height is about .125" , just like a shell holder. Something to check.

The .017" shoulder set back may cause *case separations * when fired.

Could be the LNL design wiith those quick change inserts. You add another set of tolerances with those bushings over a standard press and die especially when they wear.
Do a search on LNL bushing failure.
Yep I find the die bushings last longer than the piece in the press. I love the system but the stupid die insert eventually gets chewed up on the thrust bearing surface of the lugs.

My press bushing is a little boogered, but I'm affraid to replace it for fear that the die settings would need refinement. I have 20 plus dies I run.

The die settings will be trashed once the press bushing starts to break down. Might as well buy a spare now so you don't lose a week like I did when my first press bushing went south.

I should get a spare. I've been running this one for years and years now.

Hornady did sent me a replacement many years ago. I can't remember if it was for the LNL Single stage I had or what. That LNL single stage was not meant for hard use by the way. I wore that sucker out.

The Big Boss II is some of the best money I've ever spent.

I use a Big Boss II as well. It’s a nice solid press and I love that it’s hard stop as opposed to cam over. Makes setting dies super easy. I load great ammo on it.

So I "cheated" by installing an RCBS bushing into the sizing station. On the LnL AP; sizinging is always station 1; so that one got the bushing and does got a regular lock ring. Love it. Still fast changeovers, and the sizing die insert doesn't break down. Other dies / powder measure have the standard quick bushing and change over is still fast.

The deck height may be different at each station. Think 5 different shell holders.

That would only come into play if you're running the die down to the shellplate (on some of the cuts.)

Adjusted intelligently (i.e. not the way the manufacturer says to), you'll probably be running a gap to avoid setting the shoulder back too far.

I use a load-n-load conversion in a RCBS Rockchucker. If my brass is getting hard, (needs annealing), I can measure a gap between the bushing and the female part in the press. They are pretty flimsy. To control shoulder bump on hard brass I change back to the original RCBS bushing in the press.
