Lite rain gear for hunting

I have a set of FrogToggs also and I liked it better than any rain gear I have ever used. That being said mine was the first year out and they only made it in black. Have they got better colors now? SPJ how you going to hit any thing with hypothermia?

Gotta be tough” but in WW2 Belgium battle of the Bulge iirc all our soldiers had was wool and ponchos. Hard to imagine going through that..
I guess that why their called the greatest generation.

I use the Kuiu Yukon full set and its fantastic. I've hunted and done about 10 matches in it and its been holding up great and is very breathable. Last year my grandfather, my dad, and I all went to Newfoundland for a moose hunt. The weather was terrible, rain everday, 35mph winds, and TOO warm. The moose would not move, so we had to. I average 10 miles per day on foot in the rain with and Alpha Burleys and I have to say, I was the most comfortable hunter there. Both my dad and grandfather as well as the guides either used Goretex or Rubber rain gear. The tuck brush and high grass tore apart the Goretex and wetted it through. The rubber was worse because they just sweated until they were soaked and hot.

The Yukon gear is badass. I stayed dry, and when I got warm, I'd crack open the hip and pit vents on them and cool off. I brush beat alot of nasty tuck bush in that gear and didnt get any snag or rips.

I now have a whole set of their stuff. Underlayers, top layer, outer wear, rain gear, gloves etc. Stuff is good and if you can swing it... it helps you hunt longer and harder.
7 days in the rain walking 10 miles a day in 8" deep pete moss is hard enough...dont make it miserable. Buy the best gear you can afford.

I have an ArcTeryx {sic??} jacket and it is, without a doubt, the best jacket I have ever had. Then again, it ought to be. They don't give them away.
For a more reasonable price, you might want to look at Western Rivers. They have vents and waterproof zippers and are also fantastic. I haven't seen this mentioned, but the Western Rivers jacket I have also has a very nice hood that stays put, don't aggravate you to wear and you have a nice full view. many jackets are good and high quality...few come with a nice workable hood. And FWIW you can wear your favorite ball cap under this hood. I have yet to get wet or blow a shot because of noise in either of these jackets.

Companies that make hunting clothes dont belive or dont know what pit zips are. The only exception is Sitka Gear and the only jackets that they make with pit zips are going to cost you well over $300. Alot of companies also dont belive in adding hoods to thier jackets.

To each his own but I could never see owning a rain jacket with out a hood?
