Lighter bullets with 8 twist

Well I finally recieved my Pac Nor prechambered in a 6BR for my Savage action, the barrel is SS, 3 groove 8 twist and with 40 rounds thru the barrel, this is showing some tight groups with RL-15 and the 107 MK, but I tried a few of the Sierra 85gr hpbt and the Hornady 87 Vmax both were TERRIBLE, any other lighter bullets worth a try in this barrel that will work, the 107 shoot incrdeibly accurate, but looking to get a load to work with the 8 twist and 3 groove.

The 80gr Berger FB "Varmint" and the 77gr Lapua FB both shoot real well in my PacNor 3-groove 8-twist 6BR.

Make sure you run the load hot enough and I'd start about .010" in the lands for both the Bergers and the Scenars. I had the Bergers .016 in the lands and they were drilling well under 1/4 MOA 5-shot groups at 100.

I never got the 87 V-Max to shoot real well for me, but I didn't play with seating depth at all.

There are a lot of people using RL-15 in the 6BR but our club has pretty much all switched to Varget. I also shoot an 8 twist in 6BR and shot 88 and 90 just fine with Varget, but I also worked with the seating depth. The VLD's had to be seated a few thousanths into the lands while the BT's worked OK just short of the lands.

Why do you want to shoot a lighter bullet if the 107's shoot so well? i believe if you have a good thing stick with it and dont waste time with trying other things. If you are after an expanding bullet for hunting use the 105gr A Max they work well but i like the Sierra for paper.

I am using Varget for my light bullet loads. I have a 8 twist and shoot the 58 Vmax for close range prairie dogs and the 105 Amax for dogs out past 500 yards.

Varget, and the 80 grain Fowler flat base work very well in my Shilen 1in8.
My new 3 groove Pac-Nor will be using RL-15 and the new JLK 105's

I've dinked around with H322 and 65-70gr. bullets in one of my 8-twist Dashers, but so far, haven't reached the pressure levels necessary to expand cases enough to prevent coating them with soot. However, 100yd. accuracy is fantastic with Hornady 65VMaxes, and also with Estes 65gr FBHP BR bullets. The heaviest charge I've chrono'd so far was 33.0grs., and moly'd bullets were just reaching 3300fps at that level. I think it'd be easy to reach 3400+ out of my 29" Krieger. Am probably going to try Varget next.
