6br 8 twist, lighter bullets?

Ok, Ok, I looked but could not find...I am looking at a 6BR with HArt barrel, 8 twist. I want to shoot longer range woodchucks (to 800 yards) but am concerned about bullet bounce with the heavies. I have pushed some 22 caliber 55's to over 675 yards but they are out of gas...wonder about 70-87 grain varmint bullets in an 8 twist 6BR. Will the barrel do it? Will an 8 twist shoot the 65 grainers also? I understand that the 8twist is usually for the heavies, but I cannot afford a bent bullet bouncing over a hill into.... :o

Any advice would be appreciated.

105 Amax. I say this because I shoot a lot @ long range at our farm. At 700 and 800 yards, I have found a lot of Sierra 107's and Berger 105's laying around the target berm that look like you could shoot them again. However I've never found an intact 105 Amax, just the red tips and copper fragments. They seem to go "boom!" when they first hit dirt, and are pretty accurate to boot. I'm sure the lighter varmint type bullets would also explode, but getting them to 800 yards accurately would be a nice trick. I've shot the Berger 80's to 400-500 yards but beyond that things get sketchy. Maybe the 87 Vmax would be worth looking at. Just my two cents.

Thanks. I think I will try the mid-weights in the v and a max and go from there. I appreciate the advice.

I killed a PD at 1,020 yards with an 87-grain V-Max out of 6x284, went through both front shoulders, buried up in the ground, and all we found was exploded copper jacket shards. THis bullet was leaving at 3,600 FPS, so I'm not sure exactly what the slower speed of the 6BR will be and how that will affect things, but I would think the 6BR would do at 800 what the 6x284 does at 1,000.

Good luck.

Gmarganal,
That is the kind of real life info I need. If the 87 works in the throat, I think it will be one of my 1st experiments. I have some 70 and 75 grain selections as well. Of course there are a pile of 107s witht he gun already, and I will try them, but not at most of the farms i shoot here in Central NY.

Again, thanks

55 noslers 65vmax 75g vmax 105g amax all shoot very very well thru my 1-8 6br!

go nuts im sure it will shoot something in the weight range u want well!

cheers Andy
