Leupold

I just purchased a pair of binoculars by Leupold. When I got them home and took them out of the package I noticed on the back of them MADE IN CHINA. Is this correct??? I got them from a national chain so I do not think they were knock offs.

When I looked at them I compared them to another brand same 10 x 42 except the other brand was almost $50.00 more. The Leupolds were still just a little better. I was shocked they were made in China :o

I believe only Leupold products that exhibit the "Gold Ring" are produced (assembled) in Oregon and have the Leupold Lifetime Guarantee. Leupold has been outsourcing the entry level optics for over a decade....this is nothing new....it's been in all the papers.

Yes, that was the deciding point for me not too long ago. I believe it was a pair of Leupold Acadia binos vs. Weaver Grand Slam. To my eyes the Weavers appeared clearer. I turned both sets over, Weaver made in Japan, Leupold made in China. That was the deciding point for me. Granted we were talking the lower price range of binoculars.

I picked up a set of 8X42 Mojave's around Christmas. They are marked "Made in Japan."

I'm happier with that than China and they are decent for the money.
