leupold disapearing from competitions?

Leupold is still owned and operated by the same family. They simply hired a different CEO, and employ 650 American workers. Since hiring the new CEO, they have added an additional 100 employees to their payroll.

Edit: After more than 100 years in business, they probably know how to handle that business;)

So what your saying is the test data is flawed because there were only 2 Leupold's used in the competition?

PRS competitors seem to gravitate to what is winning at the time. For example look at the barrels used and how that has changed in the last few years or the stocks or even the cartridges. Does this also mean that the not so popular stocks or barrels are now junk?

If you look back there is a trend to scopes also. S&B was top dog for quite a few years but now is fading quickly. Vortex is a big supporter of the PRS and they make an awesome scope so they will be at the top for a few years at least, especially with their new AMG.

Personally, I think what Donovan and Matt written, have both a strong basis and living proof, if you attend a national shooting competition. Among others, I attended the Berger Nationals at Ben Avery Shooting Range back in February (to observe) and noted that many shooters had Nightforce Scopes on their rifles. I also noted a large banner (near the entrance) advertising Nightforce Scores as well as advertising fliers, but nothing for Leupold that I ran across. Now some of my friends have Nightforce Scopes while I and others, have Leupolds. I've never had any problems with any of my Leupolds despite the suggestions by some who like the Nightforce better. So I believe it boils down to perhaps a lack of advertising or just greater advances by some manufacturers to quench the thirst for the latest and greatest product on the market. I just happen to have always liked and appreciated the excellence that Leupold has delivered to me in every one I own (dating back to the late 70's), not to mention their pricing fits better into my wallet. Just my .02 worth.

Can't shake the feeling that a guy with great vision would choose a different scope from an older guy, or a guy with less vision, or a guy with corrected vision.

So the presence of a given brand name at a national match might not be measuring the scope, it might be measuring the vision of the shooter.
 
I just remembered something that might be of some interest. There is this somewhat known shooter named DAVID TUBB that uses and sells MK6 and MK8 scopes with his reticles in them. I wonder how he feels about them? I'm sure he could have gotten a few different companies to do this for him.
 
Competition shooting is doesn't make up 2% of the scopes sold
Long range shooting is the only class where scope movements is critical .
Many of the short BR shooters have The movement locked .

Define more scope. A MK8 has a top magnification of 25. Most PRS guys run theirs at lower magnification on average - easier for quick target acquisition.

If you mean glass quality then that's even a bigger can of worms to open up. My S&B Klassik 3-12 to my eyes was the best glass I have ever owned. My S&B PM11 3-27 had horrible glass - for the money and I sold it as quickly as I could. My S&B 5-20 USD had great glass but not as good as both of my Mk6's with all three tested side by side. My NF and Razor I could tell no difference with both being excellent and when left with the decision as to which one to keep, I kept the Razor only because of the reticle.

I am 54 and have old eyes - I need readers to read and I have no problems using my 2.5-8 power scope with the adjustable eye piece. And I don't use the readers for shooting.

That's what I'm suggesting.

I'd be willing to bet that top shooters with similar vision choose similar scopes for similar reasons. Another top shooter with different vision chooses a different scope for vision reasons.

It's all subjective perception on the part of the shooter, and a number of top shooters choosing the same scope could simply mean that they have similar vision, therefore similar perception, and similar needs.

That doesn't mean that a scope chosen by a top shooter with excellent eyesight would be a good choice for one of us mortals if we have poor eyesight, or vice-versa.
 
Everybody's eyes are different. What looks good to some, looks bad for others. That doesn't matter if it's spotting scopes, rifle scopes or binoculars. That is maybe some of the reason. BR is a different game and if the scope isn't holding POI you will lose. They figured this out in the short range game years ago. That is why they have experimented with locked reticles and movable rings. Matt

Doesn't matter in short range BR? Larry, check the scores in the top 10 of a major match. I doubt that you will find .020" difference from #1 to #10. A scope moving a point of aim .005-.040 doesn't matter? It matters a lot in all disciplines. Most shortrange shooters do not have a way to lock their scopes. The Tucker conversion does not lock a scope. A few had their erector tubes glued solid with external adjustments, but not much of that any more.

Haven been around it we lost the BR shoot we had short attendence . Larry
We have a small gun club 1000 members Normal week end we have 500 shooter or more we only have 5 competitive shooters That tells me that based on scop Sales that is 1% Larry
