leupold disapearing from competitions?

Haven been around it we lost the BR shoot we had short attendence . Larry
We have a small gun club 1000 members Normal week end we have 500 shooter or more we only have 5 competitive shooters That tells me that based on scop Sales that is 1% Larry

You might want to read my post again. I never addressed scope sales, just the importance of a scope holding its point of impact.

Butch -

Like you say, any movement at 100yds is bad, and even more so for anyone who tunes loads at 100 for 1000. For all error at 100 will multiply in dispersion down range.

At this years IBS1000 National's, there was 0.031" between the 1st & 2nd place aggregates, which equates to 0.003" at 100yd is all (0.031 / 10 = 0.003).

To my eye leupold glass sucks ive look thru all of them. Personal i like sightron scopes.
I think its all personal opinion. To some people its a popularity thing like vortex is a big name right now so alot just buy them without looking at other glass.
"Opinion are like buttholes everyone has one"

Is it just me or are leupold's virtually non existent in the major competitions nowadays? Granted I have limited exposure . But if my observations are correct, why?

I still see a steady stream of Leupolds at state and regional F-Class matches in the southeast - probably more spotting scopes than rifle scopes, though. From my (limited) observations, I would guess their market share in spotting scopes seems to be up over the past 5 years and in rifle scopes seems to be down. It seems there are always at least a couple Leupold scopes on the line.

Compared with the hunting and recreational shooting markets, how big are the PRS and F-Class and benchrest markets anyway? I've always thought of Leupold as more of a reliable hunting scope than as a niche competition scope. Mount 'em well, zero it with your ammo, and it will do exactly what you expect and yield a dead critter at hunting season. Shooting deer and varmints might go a bit better with higher end glass, but Leupold does the job. Not sure I'd want to subject NF glass to what my Leupold scopes have seen riding around in the back of pickup trucks, tractors, carried up and down mountains.

I was on Berger's website this morning and stumbled on to the NBRSA Group Nationals results held this past October. I noticed that they had links for equipment used so I opened up LV and HV and started looking at what was the latest rage in the BR world when I noticed that they had scopes listed and it reminded me of this post. In the LV class with 110 shooters Leupold led the way with 39, NF had 31, March had 29 and Valada with 1. I only counted the Leupolds in the HV and of the 113 shooters Leupold had 47. The remainder seemed to be split evenly between NF and march.

There is a number of different ways one could interpret this data but I think it shows that Leupold is still considered a viable scope.

Just check the same list 5 yrs ago and 10 yrs ago. You will see the Leupold is making an exodus.

I bet if you checked the guys using Leupold most of them had that scope on their gun for 10 years or so. In heavy gun a lot of guys use their light gun because they don't have two guns. I am not saying they are really bad, but they are declining. It is like if you checked short range. Years ago Hart barrels was the leader, and now that has changed. If a better product comes out, shooter's tend to switch quick. Matt

Leupold has bin and continues to dominate the benchrest world as far as benchrest is concerned. When I started shooting benchrest in 99 you could find leupold scopes on most benchrest rifles. Now you ar starting to see more scopes from other manufacturers such as nightforce-march-and valdada just to name a few, Build them and benchrest shooters will come, thats no joke. When it comes to extreme rifle accuracy benchrest shooters spare no expenses to find that magic combination that they ar looking for,i am also guilty of such crimes,It's not an addiction it's an obsession. Anyway back to scopes,in the many years that I have competed in benchrest one thing hasn't changed, when it comes to blaming something when someone shoots a bad group its allways the scope that takes the fall, what do you think?

If push came to shove and the scope was gonna get a thrashing, I'd be putting my money on the NF. There's a reason they're heavy..

the why is they don't care if they shoot or not! I live in Oregon and have 3 real old leupolds and they are great but now they are junk in my eyes. my buddy got one of there high end scopes and we couldn't get it sighted in. shot 1&half in left move 18 clicks to right before impact move and then it was 1in right. sent it back to them 4 times and they sent it back as okay! wrong still the same thank god for cabelas as they took it back even as we told them scope would not make a good boat anchor! also in low light there glass now sucks!!

A lot of times it is the scope, been proven many times. It is one of the hardest things to diagnose if there is a problem. Sometimes you just need to put on another one to see. MATT

One thing I did not mention on my post Is that my Leupold competition scopes are tuckerized, did they need to be?. I personally know Cecil Tucker and had him do the upgrade on my leupold scopes. My Nightforce and March scopes are left alone no upgrade.Maybe I have been fortunate as I haven't had the need to send any of them back for repairs. I will admit to one thing though, as far as clearaty is concerned and better light transmission my Nightforce and march scopes are without a doubt superior. I know that everyone's eyesight is different, especially mine having 20/13 vision on my right eye. So what i have done just to prove a point is i have taken my scopes to matches and had other competitors look through them just to see what they think as far as clearaty is concerned. Out of 12 shooters they all came out with the same conclusion. # 1 was also my top pick ( Nightforce) scopes where all 40 power except the Nightforce 42.i
