Sound like the luck I had with them I bought on of the first VX-6 7-42X56 the side-focus [parallax] broke sent it in sat on the loading dock for two weeks (got there as they were taking there Thanksgiving break). once they work on it sent back still broken. Then they sent me a new one and it was broken. I finally got my money back.
I'll post my experience with Leupold in a couple months. Sending them a VX3 4.5-14x50 LR for M1 Mark 4 turrets and parallax. They've been pretty helpful thru emails and informative to the situation. Leupold is top shelf in the service dept since I've been using there products. Only in custom work as I've actually never had mechanical or optical issues with there scopes. Hoping to keep that track record.

The crap shoot starts with sliding the credit card. Patton243, I know where you're coming from. I own three scopes from a popular manufacturer. They've all been back to the company for work, one of them twice. I own a scope from another company that has been back twice. The last time it was returned, it had two fresh chips and a dent in the bell. The shipping containers to and from the shop were bomb proof. This damage happened in their shop. They shipped it back to me anyway. Thanks to a pair of needle nose pliers and proper application of teeth grinding, my sunshade is back in position. I now own a scope from another popular company. So far so good. The demand for these products exceeds supply. I want to play the game, so I take my chances.
Be aware that a VX-3 will track somewhere between IPHY and MOA, even with M1 turrets. I have two, one a 4.5-14x50LR, and need to correct for this error or my drops are off. I verified it with a precise optical test rig. Both my scopes are about 3% off correct MOA clicks, or 1.7% off correct IPHY clicks.
In other news, I sent back a VX-3 that was damaged by user error (not me). They repaired it and sent it back quickly and for free!
I agree Leupold is gone to shit..kind of reminds me of Burris in the late 90's..I sent them a scope once and they lost it then sent me the wrong scope back..lol....And what is bad is they know they have a problem and do nothing to actually fix it..Good scopes for your average deer hunter who fires a few rounds a year. Other than that junk..It is a shame..

I have 5 or 6 older leupolds, VX3s, VX1s and I've not had any trouble with them. Last fall I bought a VX6 with the Fire dot to put on a 357 maximum carbine for deer. I sighted it in then set up my crono and was shooting groups and checking velocity. About 6-8 rounds in I saw my crono blow to pieces through the scope! It took a sudden 10-12" shift down. I Tryed to bore sight it again but the turret wouldn't move the cross hair and felt strange. I just sent it back for a refund since i only had it a day. It's only one sample, but I wander if the quality is going down on the newer models. There was no love what so ever as I picked up the pieces of my crono swearing the whole time. I have one of the AR model 3x9s also, it works, but does seem to be lower quality. I'll keep my old ones though, they work great.

man i was looking at getting my first leupold and sending it in to the custom shop, or just ordering one from the custom shop, but now you guys are making me second guess... i mean i know there are goods and bads in all brands.... but still .. i had a cheaper brand scope that i thought it had in issue... sent it in they got back to me very quick said they couldnt find any thing and asked me more questions... looked at it more.. than got back to me.. ( turned out it was just my own stupidity... haha 
) but i like to hear good customer service stories..
i dont have any leupolds yet and kind of had the itch to buy one lately haha.... some times i think this hobby must be worse than drugs haha

I find this hard to believe....even if you had the chrono at 10 yard spacing. IMHO the chrono set-up set-up caused the shift.
Agreed there have been design problems in newly introduced models, but that is typical of most manufacturers. If you are referencing the durability of the LCS models , the old 36x M8 suffered from the same potential problem. These are $1000 scopes and to compare them against the durability of scopes costing 2 to 2 -1/2 times as much is unreasonable. Yet there is no guarantee the more expensive ones will not fail to hold POA. The $400 Weaver is a bargain, but the glass is low end, and they also have a history of the same malady.
I have had excellent service by Leupold through the years, they have replaced 30 year old scopes with newer models, have corrected POA issues on the two LCS's I sent back, and upgraded reticles at a fair price.
When the LCS's are no longer in the winners list of big matches, and a scope company has absolute proof of 100% reliability, then I may consider thinning the herd of BR rifles to afford one. Until then, I'll stay aware of potential POA issues and practice more with the components (barrels, bullets, powder,etc.) bought from money saved from upgrading to a new scope. IME, is ME that is the weak link that keeps me at mid-pack on the equipment lists due to poor decision making and/or bad bench habits---things a $3000 scope will not correct.

Yea you got me, I made the whole thing up and hit my crony with a hammer instead. What hard to believe? The first few shots went through the crono fine and clocked. After my crono was hit I shot it again at 50 yds and it had dropped 8-10 " = crono hit at 10-15 feet. I have used leupolds for years and have several now, so I asure you it not a made up story. I have several of brands of scopes so it's hard to be a fan boy.
Well, I have a 12" vertical window on the Oehler 35, that gives me near 6" of clearance above and below before I hit any part of the chrono. Best readings come with the shots centered in the screens, and I can't fathom any load, rifle or pistol getting anywhere near the screens even if I crank the scope adjustments to max.
Reviews are just that way. I've never had a bad Leupold and I own several Mark 4 models and a couple vx3 &vx2 models. Just buy what you want and deal with the companies warranty. I think that's the difference and you said it. I never had any issues with the VX3s or Mark 4s either. These VX6 models though have a reputation already to have issues. The turret systems for the VX6 are totally garbage and the clicks on them are very weak. Also, the magnification turning knob is real stiff in the cold weather. Even the internal adjustment in the 30mm VX3/Mark4 models are a lot better than the VX6. Overall, they're still a good scope, but not perfect either.
