Leupold Custom Shop Is Closed

Yea theyll send you a bushnell they usually sell in a bubble pack
Vista owns the Bushnell name and Beretta owns BOTH Steiner and Burris (along with some other stuff you may have heard of). It has been this way for quite some time now. Maybe you were sent some other brand of scope as a replacement? There was a period of time when CS and quality at Bushnell was flushable. If it broke tough s##t.
Vista also has the Weaver name (and a whole lot more). A friend had a Weaver T36 go down (reticle issue) and contacted Vista. He was told there were no Weaver optics but sent a certificate for any Bushnell product that had value way above (at least monetary) what the T36 cost (double).
Today we live in a fast changing gun world. Companies change hands, in the words of Ralphie's dad, quicker than a jack rabbit on a date. Sometimes it's a good thing for us; sometimes not. The only certainty is that a name is just a name now and that scope you bought twenty years ago probably doesn't suit your eyes or your needs.

Now that you said that it may have been a t-36 sent in. Glad theyre sending certificates now. That scope they sent me was perfectly adequate for a red ryder. It happened a lot right when they ran out of weaver parts i guess

No doubt the Bushnell line held/holds some stinkers. I think the "mass market" suppliers of optics all have them. NF, S&B, Zero Compromise and March to name a few concentrate of the higher end of the scale while Leupold, Burris, Bushnell and others need product that provide opportunities to "the masses". The problem I see with that is the damage a poorly executed budget optic can leave such a bad impression the buyer may choose to move on instead of up in that product line. After all, isn't everyone an expert now?

I guess this leaves me wondering.
Does it need warranty because it doesn't function properly (won't hold zero, bad reticle)?
Is it just something you find annoying but doesn't hinder functionality?
I would think if it is reason number one then sending it back would be more a win than a gamble.

I wonder how many complaining about Leupold and even other companies and what and how they are operating today, would handle the situation, if they owned those companies, with the envoirement that the Biden/Harris admin has the USA in ? It is no wonder more and more, each week, are closing, cutting back and even leaving the USA and going to other countries to stay afloat.

I shied away from the Leupolds after the CDS stuff came out, I use too many different loads in my guns to be bothered with switching knobs per load. Once I saw the difference in a Nikon 6.5-20 I picked up 30 yrs ago, I had the bug to look around a bit at other stuff, I'd already tried Burris and Bushnell, they were out for future purchases. In 2019 bought one Leupold VXIII to check against a Swaro Z3 to see if there was really any difference, granted it was 300.00 difference, but, kept the Z3 and sold the Leupold for what I paid for it. In 2010 I bought a Zeiss Conquest and that started me off on really not even considering Leupold anymore, until 2019, bought Zaiss and Swaro mostly. Last couple of yrs I have been buying some FFP scopes, Delta, Tract, Sightron, no issues with those. All I have left now for Leupold is an old 2-7x33, which I will probably replace, and an old 3.5-10x50 which still works good enough to keep. Hunting guns are all Zeiss or Swaro now.

Got an email from Leupold late yesterday stating my Vari-X III 6.5-20x has been repaired and will be delivered by end of day 1-29-22. I love that old school glossy scope. So much so, I would have sold off the new current replacement and shopped for old school. Glad for the reasonably quick turnaround and still having parts for it.

Thanks, Leupold.

Arrived at my door today at 10am. Apparently, they thought it needed more than what I sent it in for. Nice to see still plenty of parts in house. I even asked them to replace the Golden Ring if they could as it was fading after 30 years of outdoor exposure. They did!! Arrived in the original box, too.

Dusty... You will NOT get your scope back....They will offer a NEWER but different style in return. the fine print says repair/replace at their option. your 8 x 32 day/twilight is long out of production. Even though it was TOP of the line back then, you'll be lucky to get a mid-class scope in return offered (without putting up some cash).

Have a question Does anyone use the MARCH HighMaster48x52 IF I Posted this in the wrong place please let me know

I'll throw my warranty experiences in FWIT:

Burris: 3-9X40 FFII had a sliver of glass edge I could see at 3X. Sent in, returned fixed. No drama
Scout scope FUBAR after a vehicle wreck. New scout scope sent to me. No drama* WOW

Leupold: 9yr old range finder reticle started to fade on the edges. It also wouldn't range past 500yds anymore. Leupold rep walked me through the reset/calibration of my old RF and it worked! They told me I could keep the old RF and they would send their newest 2800 model for $290! WOW! That gave me a warm & fuzzy feeling!

Burris: Isn't as easy to get a live rep on the phone, but they do handle everything through their message system and keep it updated. Burris economy line scopes under $300 are absolute steals for the quality and dependability.

Leupold, I can get a person to answer the phone every time and they have been cordial, knowledgeable, and helpful. I have come to love the VX5HD line. Bought two in past 6 months. They each have a mushy turret though. Elevation on one, and the windage on the other. If I find I can't live with it, I have no fear sending them in.
