Leupold Custom Shop Is Closed

I contacted Leupold last week concerning a reticle chance for an older benchrest scope I have and the answer I got was that their focus was on building new scopes and new designs for scopes at this time and that a reticle change for an older model scope was not in their interest at this time. This is not the same company Leupold use to be. I was very disappointed in the answer I got to say the least.
 
Leupold has replaced three scopes for me in the past 3-4 for years. All were bought used and sent in with no receipt or paperwork of any kind. The scopes I got in return were of equal or greater value. They may not be what they use to be in some areas but they still outperform many other scope companies in the warranty dept imo.

I still buy old Redfield and Burris scopes too but I know I’m not Gonna get the same warranty experience I’ve had at Leupold. I’m aggravated they shut down the custom shop, I bought a couple scopes a year out that department and miss it.

They finally got their long range scopes together too, took them awhile but they finally made a winner with the Mark5. I’m not really high on the CDS system, I have some but I haven’t really bonded with them. Maybe I just need to put a little more effort into it.

What chaps my hide is they have a lifetime warrantee bu quit making parts so they don't have to repair them.
they replace them with a better /newer scope ,i would say thats great customer service.
knight force won't do that neither will ziess metopia bushnell burris tasco or 95 of the scope manufactures out there

I've been doing business with leapould for 41 yrs never a problem never a hassle
ill continue to use them for another 40+ without hesitation
Burris will replace.
 
Yes but not with the same scope unless you PAY for the upgrade.....I've been burned ...Never again.
You haven't been burned. You used a scope, prolly got your pennies out of it, then when it took a crap you got into the latest version with baked in current upgrades, a new scope for a fraction of the cost. That's what Leupold did with me. No complaints.

The first time was with their Signature series. It wouldn't adjust (period) .They were still making this line when I contacted them..Pay for upgrade or accept Fullfield cause we're not going to fix it....Next was the Black Diamond Windage quit tracking..Same B.S. Now they're good when they work. But they're CS and Warranty SUCKS......BTW....With the BLK. DIA. Burris wanted over $800 to up grade...which is about what I paid for the original scope to begin with.

Tommie, that story makes me reconsider selling off some older Vari-X and Vari-X II scopes I've accumulated.

That's the only leupolds I buy is the older Veri-x-111 and the VX-111 the new scopes are overpriced and low quality. Now that the custom shop is closed they have nothing to offer.

No Question Leupold is on the list of scopes not to buy or touch with a 10 foot pole. Too bad at one time their service was second to none. Cooperate Greed has taken over another good product and made it Junk!!
 
randy newburg/freshtracks and his hunt talk web sight i do not watch his shows i do not follow him i do not go to his web sight, leapould & nosler are 2 of his biggest sponsors i will not give my money or my business to companies that are associated with him,his fresh tracks shows have ruined many many many good public land hunting spots i ry my best to avoid any product that sponsors any hunting shows
 
some of the best hunting units in montana /wyoming/idaho where we might have only ever seen 6-8 people in an entire season are now over run with 100 people because newberg did an episode on that unit and announced exactly where he was hunting its ruined the hunting in montana
 
Apparently Leupold's custom shop is closed indefinitely. Does anyone know if that effects the ordering of the free CDS turrets ?
Another really good reason to stay away from all Leupold products. They have gone the same way a lot of good American Companies. Given into Corporate Greed and made a good company completely Junk and not worth buying from.

I won't stay away from a top optic like Leupold simply because their custom shop is closed temporarily. If I stayed away from businesses that closed temporarily for whatever reason, I'd run out of places to shop. Take a look around 20-30% of businesses have closed during the pandemic and some never to reopen. I need a new custom turret for a scope but I can wait. No hurry. The Mark of a good quality scope is one that never fails and never needs to get back to the company. That's what Leupold has been for me. I won't be dropping Leupold from my scope line up anytime soon.
 
No problem as long as they keep giving you a better scope in return. The other companies seem to be the opposite
Dusty, That's the problem!!! (There older scope are far better than the new one in my opinion) They aren't giving a better scope!! I have a friend that broke a VX-3 6.5X20 with target knobs and target dot. That he had sent back to the Custom Shop and had the M1 tactile knobs installed on. He sent back for repair and they sent him Their regular $499.00 6x18 side focus with a duplex reticle. Because they didn't have the parts or the time to fool with it. So he never got anywhere near the value of the scope he sent in. Now he is going to sell the piece of crap they sent him and have to spend extra money to get a scope as good as the one he sent in. He and I are both all done with Leupold and everyone else should be too. They spoiled the best part of their product. All for Corporate Greed!!!

I was probably one of Leupold's biggest fans. I own probably (15) Leupold scopes. I will keep on using them. As far a Notion to convince you. I am just stating the facts. What you decide to is totally up to you. As far as me hating Leupold that's far from the truth. I really like the Leupold scopes I have. I just don't care for the way they are doing business now or their new product line and because of that I will no longer buy their products. You can do as you please.
