Lets talk .22LR match ammo (50-100yd)

If a chronograph indicates a wide ES and high SD for a particular ammo, it's likely it won't be a candidate for good performance.
That is the common wisdom but I have seen some pretty accurate handloads with extremely poor chrono numbers perform well out past 800 yards. I use a Shotmarker when doing long range practice and have witnessed little to no correlation between velocity and point of impact on targets.

I have never tried this with any .22 but anyone can run an experiment by shooting some at 100 or 200 yards over a chrono. If you have a decent scope on a mirage free day it is pretty easy to see the bullet holes even at 200 and plot them on a replica of the target and compare them to the chrono numbers afterwards. See if the high/low shots correlate to the FPS. I would bet they do not

I think you continue to misunderstand.

I said that a chronograph can't determine what shoots well. Only the results can tell you that.

You appear to agree, yet say I'm wrong. Can you elaborate?
My mistake, like you said, we probably kicked this dead horse enough….shoot well.

i feel that trying to correlate rimfire to center fire it like trying to say that cats and dogs are related..

All I am saying if get a couple of boxes of ammo, no matter what quality set up your chrono and a target at 100 or 200 then log each shots point of impact and see if the FPS correlates. Maybe it will correlate, maybe it won't. I have never done this with rimfire, I might someday but it is not something that is high on my priority list.

My range time these days is pretty much taken up with practicing my wind calling and trying to improve my physical/mental techniques so one day I may shoot that 2500. That is really the only number that matters to me

only numbers that really matters to me are 10's and X's..

I've always had my best results with RW50, Eley black box and Midas +. But I did see a friend win a 100 yard shoot years ago with a stock savage and CCI Green Tag. You just gotta try many.

and today was that day, with $9 a box SL Pistol Match Special

buy the best that you can afford and that shoots the best 50 yard groups. when you go long range you need that low extreme spread velocity number. wind of course is the biggest factor but velocity difference will really eat you up at 100 and beyond,

Lee Gardner Precision

Got extraordinary calm this morning so I “finished” some lot testing that began in an 50y indoor range this week. All are 10shot groups, measured outside-to-outside in mm, and 50y distance. 10 shots fouler group when changing brands.

I did not take time / distraction to try and get velocity data because I wanted the test results to be the best possible quality.

I was hoping that one of the three lots of Match would shine but 1) none did and 2) they were mostly sold out in the few days that it took to ship to me. I guess I’ll keep trying.

I have 1k left of some older Match that shoots well but I tried 5 lots of that stuff that came up last week and none wanted to group for me either

My CZ likes cheap Eley Contact better than the expensive Match. A good place to get it online is Killough. Left target was first 3 today, right target I adjusted down took a shot then adjusted my scope the wrong way :D took a shot then adjusted the right way for the last 3. This was at 100 yards 1" dot.

For cheap SK ammo it likes Pistol Match. I just got a brick from De Leon Pharmacy and Sporting Goods online, eurooptic is also a good place for SK. This was today also at 100 yards.

Picking up a CZ 457 MTR for the grandsons and get em' going on the
bench. One is familiar with my .22's and has shown with my Remington
597, he can get some 3/4" groups at 50 yards with CCI mini-mags. For
initial work I found some Wolf extra match made by Eley to get them
started when the rifle arrives......Not worrying about prices. Also, availability
and best places to shop for the higher end ammo.
try eley benchrest precision you can thank me later, killsborough sports beats everyones prices, they beat midway by 7 bucks a box, thats rigt i said 7 bucks per box last time i checked.
