Let's see YOUR 6XC

So, norma 22/250 brass is smaller than norma 6 XC brass? Winchester 22/250 brass is a lot smaller than Lapua 22/250 brass, etc.

So, 6 XC I chamber is for Lapua 22/250 brass OR Winchester/Remington brass? Is the 6 XC I chamber even large enough for Lapua 22/250 brass, Lapua 243 Brass, or Lapua 308 palma brass?

6 XC II reamer/dies is for Norma 6 XC brass that has been on the huge size all along.

I have a 6 XC I reamer and barrel waiting in line... sure would be nice for someone to let the cat out of the bag on this, and I am sure that others would like to know also.

My 1-8 twist has a chamber for base brass 22/250 and I have run into some tight sticky cases. Not real bad but undesirable especially if you were shooting in competition. My new 6xc I went with the 6xc II long throat. So far it is working good. But I really did not have a BIG issue with my other chamber and I still shoot it with Norma brass but I do think it handicaps it. I am no expert on it. But I am leaning toward the 6xc II chamber being the way to go.

How many of you guys get a "click" on extraction of the cases? Seems to be a lot of controversy on this issue, norma brass is huge.

I am going to make mine from Lapua brass.

I dont( I hoping I am not jinxing myself), I have 1100 Norma brass rounds thru, a chamber cut by pac-nor with a hendriksen reamer that seems XC I to my look at dimensions. I do full length bushing size every time, and have gone to annealing every 2-3 firings. I am only running about 2850 fps with hBN dtacs, so that may also help with less pressure.

birdog That is really nice. Is that thing allowed at the Dasher Dome ?

I'd like to see you test some RL26 in that.

Here is a thread on VarmintsDen

well two days into my whitetail doe season actually started last Saturday. but I took the rest of this week off to fill some tags meat for the freezer. I shot one yesterday with the 1-7 twist 6XC with a 115 VLD at 420 ish yards see fell in her tracks. shot one today with the 1-8 twist 6XC with a 105 VLD 410 yards she fell in her tracks..I did not take any pictures yet this year. be back out there tomorrow. So far I am very happy with the XC as a hunting round.

Updated 12/12/15 3 whitetail doe fell to the 105 VLD from the 6XC today. first one I shot 501 yards, 6 min on the dial. she was slightly quartering away head to the right. I held for the off side shoulder. I hit slightly back just ahead of the guts in the ribcage bullet exited just behind the off side shoulder, she fell in her tracks. kicked slightly but never moved.Second one my buddy had missed one and said would you let me shoot your rifle(6XC) I said hell yea you can shoot mine..ranged her at 485 gave him the dial he shot and it ran down hill 25 yards and turned into a thicket I could see her standing there expecting her to fall. at this point I have never seen one hit with the 105 that moved. she walked threw the thicket looked ok not hurt at all he said you sure that's her. yea I seen her the whole way. she moved out the hill 50 yards or so and was just in front of a big dead tree but still in some thick cover. he shot again and I seen her go down then back up and went behind the dead tree but never seen her after that. so we went over I found her 50 yards below the dead tree. She was dead. Gut shot. the 105 VLD went threw the guts and exited. I kind of thought it was a poor shot but that VLD hit hard enough that it only went 50 yards gut shot. third one at the end of the day my buddy killed one at 400 yards with his 300 RUM he was dragging her out when I was at the truck just off the road when a doe came walking by looked like it was carrying something in it's mouth like a dog would. then we saw it had the whole lower half of it's jaw blow off and hanging. My buddy said shoot her to put her out of her misery . I said I don't have anymore tags and I don't want her. he said I don't want her either but we cant leave her like that. there had been some shots around where we were. He said grab your pop gun and put her out of her misery. so the 6XC cracked one more time, she was 40 yards and out of her misery. I tell ya it's just been a great combination the 105 VLD out of the 6XC . deadly combination.

Fire306,

Very interesting front rest, can we see more? Home made or?

Thanks, Paul

Paul,
I was lucky enough to find this one used. Here's a link to the buider. I am really impressed with this rest, although I certainly don't want to portray myself as a pro shooter. It does everything I want in a rest and the adjustable front bag system that you can adjust to any rifle works great.
Mine is the style A, with the adjustable windage top

What kind of velocities are you getting with your 20" barrel? Do you shoot 105gr bullets?
I'm thinking of building another lightweight hunting rig, and would keep the barrel at 22" or less.

Boltfluter, sorry, I have been away for a while. It shoots great so far. I haven't shot it much. Loaded up some 65 VMAX and am grouping about 1/2 on good days. Some days even better. I got the 2b contour and am glad I didn't go heavier.

FJIM,
You saw my test with RL - 17 above.
I have since settled on IMR 4350.
the IMR shot better than H 4350 in a friends.
I may try bumping up this load a half grain next time out.

Tim Claunch is the man.
Reamed my barrel with a 6 XC II reamer that does not
give click at the top of bolt lift.
No click, no knox, just high Octane Gulf No Knox

Don't try this at home :)

My AIAT with a Gradous chambered 6XC Bartlein.

I'm using Norma brass, Federal 210m primers, 105 hybrids, 39.8 grains H4350 and getting 3070 fps.
