Lemishine Original is gone!

Really my guess is the only real ingredient in both is citric acid. In the dishwasher, the citric acid dissolves the minerals that dries and sticks on to your plates and glassware. In the tumble, the same acid dissolves the copper oxide that gives you that dark color so you get the bling. It's not any more toxic than something like lime juice. Give it a run in the tumbler and see how it works. My guess is it is really a name change....

Does your method clean the brass inside and out plus the primer pockets or do you do this to put the "brassy shine" on them.

Look for citric acid in stores that carry canning supplies. It's sold for that to prevent fruits from darkening during & after canning / packing. Probably cheaper than LemiShine too, but I need to buy some myself as my last bottle just got emptied. The lime juice thing might work too, I'll try that on a small batch later today (though I hate to waste limes for this).

Am I correct, that the "formula" people have been using with SS media tumbling is water, some kind of detergent and some Lemishine? If thats correct and we are going to try citric acid I am guessing that it's used more for the finished shine than the cleaning part. Is that a fair statement.

I have seen a video on you tube with Jerry miculek cleaning brass. Your method is close to his. With the amiunt he shoots of course he is on a really large scale. He uses a CEMENT MIXER!!!!!!!!!

So you don't tumble you just mix it up in a bucket.

No, I do not tumble. I started doing this when I came into 5 mud-tubs full of 223 1x fired range brass. It was muddy, filthy stuff. I hosed it off than went to this to clean it. The boiling water stinks with the citric acid in it. I also forgot...I add white vinegar too, and Dawn. (That is why I don't bake...three ingredients and i forgot one!)
This results in a clean case. it is not super polished like the tumbled brass that guys love and that is so clean it sticks in dies and chambers...(just sayin). It gets me through the brass prep and then I tumble/vibrate, unless I am going to run it in an AR. In that case i clean it again with boiling water and soap, to get the brass filings, imperial off/out, then rinse, dry and load. With the AR hot brass flies out onto wet grass, and well, it is time to start all over with the cleaner!
If I want pretty stuff, i am still using my old FA vibrator and corn cob. Slow, but cheap.
