I'm saddened to say I learned of the passing of Donovan Moran yesterday. Donovan was 58 years old (ish), and from what I understand was taken by a heart attack while up visiting his mother. He was a good friend to me, and would always enjoy visiting about whatever shooting or non shooting related things I was up to at the time. He even drove out a couple winters ago to help me set up a computer, since I'm fairly technically challenged. And in that trip, he got to experience a day out "in my world", that involved chaining up the pickup just to put up targets. Here he is below just "getting a feel" for what he's seen in countless photos through the years.



I don't have a lot of details on what led to his passing. I know he was attempting to quit smoking, and missed some warning signs thinking they were anxiety possibly. Rest in peace my friend.

Donovan was a huge help to me when learning to load for long range BR. His post on the forum regarding ladders tests was just amazing.
One time I was struggling with getting consistent seating force and was visiting with him via PM on this forum and he brought Tom @tom into the conversation to help me out. It was a huge help to me, having Tom and Donovan sharing info to trouble shoot my issues. A great guy that never hesitated to share information with me and others.

Sorry for your loss. I feel your pain, I too have loss so many shooting and hunting buddies; guys who shared my values.

It's especially painful to lose a friend that young. It reinforces the principle of not wasting any days.

Too bad. It is a loss to the forum. He was one guy who you could "bank" on his advice and input.

I had quite a few exchanges with him through pm's, more than on the forum itself, because he was a no BS kind of guy who had qualities that are becoming all too rare.

I first met Donovan at the 2005 IBS Nationals in Iowa. He was staying at the same motel and I saw him walk through the parking lot and he was wearing a Donnie Moran shirt. I hollered to him and asked him where he got the shirt. We talked awhile and we're good friends ever since. We had many messages sent back and forth and talked on the phone a few times. I am very saddened to hear this news. I had quite a few phone conversations with Donovan and that really gives you a good feel for what someone is all about and that just made me enjoy his posts even more,
