Left the range

I was one of Donovan’s best friends. I met him in 2007 at a match at GRRC in Harris Mn. He helped me get started in the crazy game we call long range benchrest. I have grown as a shooter and a person from knowing Donovan. I am extremely grateful for knowing him. He was a great friend and mentor.

The last time I saw Donovan was the July match at Elbow Lake. He told his long winded story about the boy coming down the street pulling a dead frog on a string. We laughed for 10 minutes.

You will be missed Donovan.

I'd forgot about that Paul, it was hilarious. When I first got serious about BR shooting and had never met him yet Donovan & I had a few PM discussions that helped me a lot at that time.

I appreciated his help.

I just saw this thread. I too am very saddened to hear of Donovan's passing. He was a nice guy and very knowledgeable LRBR competitor.

A couple years ago I was sorting out my new HG, one I had built completely myself. So I wasn't sure how well it would shoot. Donovan was at Deep Creek that match, and I brought him my tuning target, not sure what to do. He pointed out a group and said "shoot that load", so I did. During the match I shot a 4 something and then a 3.855 100-3X with the load he picked.

I'm saddened to say I learned of the passing of Donovan Moran yesterday. Donovan was 58 years old (ish), and from what I understand was taken by a heart attack while up visiting his mother. He was a good friend to me, and would always enjoy visiting about whatever shooting or non shooting related things I was up to at the time. He even drove out a couple winters ago to help me set up a computer, since I'm fairly technically challenged. And in that trip, he got to experience a day out "in my world", that involved chaining up the pickup just to put up targets. Here he is below just "getting a feel" for what he's seen in countless photos through the years.

I don't have a lot of details on what led to his passing. I know he was attempting to quit smoking, and missed some warning signs thinking they were anxiety possibly. Rest in peace my friend.

Sad to hear this news

Donovan communicated by accurate shooter and possibly by phone several years ago when both he and I were shooting at mile targets with a Dasher. Always willing to listen and help.

A great post by Donovan quest for 2,000 with a Dasher

Thanks for bringing that one back. Sure been missing him this last week so we could argue over who's got the shittier weather!

Tom
Middle Tennessee might get in that argument this week. Schatz said we had colder temps and more snow than him yesterday. We had minus 17 degrees and 6 inches snow yesterday

So very sorry for the loss of your friend

Donavan's influence was felt around the world....found me all the way down here in Australia.
I never met the man or communicated with him in any way but I read the forums on this site almost daily and actively seek out posts from half a dozen or so contributors....Donavan was one of them.
Great advice..always!
