I thought I read some where that lee collet dies will work for ackley improved cartridges. Any one have any experience with this or know for sure?
Thanks, RW

I have done it with a .30-06. No problem. One of the most underrated dies on the market.

Not all but most. As long as the neck shoulder junction isn't shortened, i.e. .30-30 AI, they should work. You will know for sure when you try it!

I do it with 260 and 7-08. Just make sure you do not bump the shoulder, and if you do just put a shim between die and shellholder. I use washers.

FWIW, take a look at the Lee website. They will apparently make you a die that is not on the standard list for a very reasonable cost. I have had excellent results with the collet die and my 308. Some of the best and most consistent concentricity I've gotten with any die.

I use the Lee collet dies on .223AI and .243AI. They work great. I do turn down the mandrel a little. That way the neck gets a tighter grip on the bullet.

I have 250 sav ack., 6.5x06ack imp, and 6.5x55 imp. and i had read a lot of good things about these and would like to try them!! Thanks, RW

Hi RW

I do believe you can do this no prob by using a washer, big one that'll slide over the case in the shellholder and serve as a spacer for your press shaft in order to avoid crushing the AI steep case shoulder;go check in this forum for an article about the 6,5 Mystic gun project in the"Gun of the week" section, the guy has a photo of it in the article.Hope it helps.
