Lee Collet Die for 6BR

I understand you can use a 6PPC Lee Collet die to neck size a 6BR. How about a 6 Dasher? Same question for a 22PPC die to size 22BR? Anybody actually doing it? Did you experience any problems?

I have used standard Lee collet dies to size "Improved" cases and they work just fine after you make sure you are not touching the shoulder. If you are you can use a shim on the shell holder.

Bill,
I don't think you can, I own both the 6br and 6ppc, I guess I could check for you but without measuring and just going off eye sight memory the 6br and dasher are larger diameter at the shoulder than the 6ppc.
Wayne.

They are different, the 6BR is .46 at the shoulder and the PPC is .431, .03 smaller. I guess it depends upon how much "slop" there is in the die.

I am not having a case of "Old Timers" I found the posts!

Redding 6mmbr body die and seating die and a Lee 6mm ppc collet die. Yes, ppc. The case and neck lengths of ppc and BR are close enough so the ppc collet die works great for the BR, no modifications necessary.

Just like RoyinNC said. I use the 6PPC Lee collet neck sizer on my 6BR cases all the time. There is so little difference in the OAL it doesn't matter. The die is straight bored, the case centers on the mandrel. I use a Forester seater die. No need to have Lee build a custom die for the 6BR, just get the 6PPC die and get started. You will love it...no lube to mess with. I do have to bump the shoulder and body a bit about ever 5 loadings. I use a Redding body only die for that.

The 6PPC collet sizer works perfectly for the 6BR. You just can't use the seater die.

Anybody got more information?

The one I got years ago... the decapping pin was over-sized and promptly got stuck - and broke off.

Haven't used it since (for this caliber).

Lee will make you a custom collet die sized to your rifle and usual bullet. I believe it is $55 including shipping back. You send them two cases from your rifle and two bullets. The decapping pin is oversize (normal) and I use an old sizing die w/ insert removed to decap. You can use the oversized decapping pin but it will eventually break. I've been very happy w/ mine. It is of course for the specific rifle you have sent components in for. Not applicable for other rifles of the same caliber.

A standard 6BR case WILL NOT fit into my standard 6PPC Lee Collet Die. A 6PPC case will (obviously) fit into a 6BR die.

Re: Lee Collete Die for 6BR

Hi,
I shoot 6 BR and 22BR and use a .243 collet die for the 6mm and a .22 250 for the 22 br.
But I had to have an extension shell holder made same for both, the shell holder fits inside the die body so the case reaches the jaws.

Bill, the post you quoted from is correct, but backwards from your original post and question. The 6PPC is smaller in diameter than the 6BR so, therefore, the 6PPC case CAN be resized in the 6BR die. But NOT vice-versa. A 6BR case will NOT fit into a 6PPC die. I'm a big fan of saving money but at the price of reloading dies and their lifetime, I find it much simpler to have proper dies for each caliber.

Wow, Gadget, now you've gone and boggled my mind!

How in the world can you resize a case that is 1.520" long (BR) in a collet die for a case that is 1.912" long (.22-250)? The base diameters are the same, so how do make this work?

LOL
You make a special shell holder with an OSD of .521 and an overall length of .899.
this is my first attempt to post a picture so ??
Hey it worked ! I even read the instructions first LOL
OK you can see you only have a small amount of grip on the shell case but it's fine as the load is down force, the body of the extension now enters the die to give the case lift to the jaws, same shell holder .243 and 22.250 Lee Collet dies

This is a little late but maybe future readers may get something from it. The BR brass will work in the LEE PPC neck sizer. The inside of the die body is straight and rather large. You could fit most any cartridge inside it. You just have to get the length/height right to match the collet fingers.

Gadget I like your modified holder. I was going to trim and ix some parts to make a collet die work for a wildcat 6mm that I'm tinkering with but your way looks MUCH easier. Thanks for posting it. Sometimes its good to think out of the box. If we only followed the rest of the sheep, how would we ever come up with something new.
