Lee bench top auto primer ?

Last post on this subject was back in 2019 rather than resurrect an oldie , Has any one tried one of late make ?? the tube filling on the RCBS is getting old and my eyes need help looking at a tray of primers and the end of the tube is getting tedious, Frankly the tube swinging as much as it does makes me use my left hand to slow it down, just waiting for the day I wack my self with it

If referring to this, got one, mounted on a small piece of hardwood flooring and clamp it down on the bench. Works pretty good, you have to tap/smack the primer tray at times as the primers will jam or clog up. A couple taps/smacks  usually free 'em up. I use it for loading in large quantities (varmint trip). You have to be careful when loading the tray with primers as the tray is a bit flimsy, the locking tab can be difficult to move smoothly (plastic), and does not just slide into the base without some care. YT videos that I watched were mixed, and most had the same issues as Istated.

I've also got this version for "on the press" priming of cases, works smoothly, easy to set up and remove. Only down side is you MUST handle every single primer and place the primer into the cup. I use this when I'm only loading a few rounds during load development. Consistent seating depth IMO but doubt it would meet the standards for the BR crowd. I'm a varmint shooter, so never had a "dud" using these tools.

I swapped over to the Auto Bench Prime almost two years ago because the hand-held was becoming a problem with my "old" hands. I have had zero issues with it other than the already mentioned feed-lag but it's really no biggy to thump the tray if you see it getting caught up at the mouth area. I have never tried the tube-feed type but on the surface I believe I like the tray-feed better.

Thanks guys, worth the try then. My RCBS hand held tray does the same thing dams up frequently, I I knew enough to order a few extra trays heard about the latch, Sad that they have not improved oh well

Can you wrap some tape around something and keep it from swinging around? Lee’s biggest issue with priming tools is letting the lawyers design their feeding trays. The old round ones worked well, the square ones kinda worked ok, the newest triangle shaped ones are awful. Try to find an older model or different brand to keep your sanity intact

I used mine for a couple of months and then threw it in the trash. I found it to be an absolute piece of garbage. Sometimes I could prime 50 or so cases before it jammed but the time wasted clearing it meant any advantage over a hand primer was lost. All the little plastic parts are cheaply made. I wasted my money. I'm glad others have had better luck. Lee makes some good items but they also make a lot of sub standard junk.

That's kinda like eating a $25.00 meal and the next morning crapping it out in the toilet.
I use one and it ok at best, I've primed 1000's of cases on it. I bought a Lee Ram Prime and have not tried it yet. I did buy the RCBS benchtop priming tool, it will come out of the drawer and be used when I've had enough of the sloppiness of the Lee priming .223 brass. Arthritic hands are a pain.

Well I ate the 25.00 meal last night half an hour AFTER the free shipping thing went away S____ I said more than that I am good at calling myself names, of course the last two posts were well after the plunge.... Oh well may just give it to my son Hey here is your belated Christmas gift it was on back order..... He'll fall for it

I do get the bridging problems with RCBS's square primer tray too, Have to keep tipping and shaking it. Maybe I'll make a drone out of it see how long it stays aloft, The Lee one.... I do have the new primer system on one of the turret presses have not had a issue yet, It has not been used as much as the old one I sold to a newbie loader a few years back never had a problem with the the round trays except for loading them

I had such bad luck with the old round tray auto primer assemblies that I just gave up on Lee. I always thought it was a good general design but very poor quality and tolerances.

I have went to the RCBS Auto Prime after years of using the LEE hand tool. I never noticed the fill tube swinging until I read this post. I would think this action would keep the primers feeding freely. I don't see the advantage of the Lee over the all metal RCBS. I especially don't like the way the LEE has each primer being introduced into the case out of perpendicular- i.e. the primer is entering the pockets cocked.

Well I will post my findings when it arrives, Sorry now you will have to watch the" tube"

Well I got it yesterday and so far eh.... the tray is sort of a pain to load and flip 100 primers not much worse than loading the RCBS tubes, it does set the primer very easily but the feel will take some time to get used to almost none, other than so much plastic it seems to be working fine for my want, While waiting for the tool to arrive I went through my old loading save box and ran across my first RCBS bench top priming tool you had to place the primer one at a time by hand LOL I feel old now... having it but worse forgetting I have it

Forgot, for comparison I did use Federal LRP and some tight pocket brass I usually struggle a bit to seat them with my RCBS universal hand primer tool, I could not feel any resistance with this tool until it hit bottom, at first I did try more pressure not realizing it was already set completely, I was expecting more resistance like the hand held tool (READ the directions dummy) So easy on the hands for sure

I put miles and miles on my old Lee Auto Primes and except for the lever gradually bending a little, they worked fine. I was young and had great hand strength so it didn't cause a problem. I finally bought a Lee Bench Prime for tight primer pockets that my hands struggled to seat. To say the least I was underwelmed. The plastic part broke and Lee sent me a new one which worked better but the primer feed was spotty and it was slow going. I still use it on Nosler brass with real tight primer pockets and CCI BR-2's, but it isn't much fun. I tried a Frankford Arsenal Hand Held system and it seems to provide a little more leverage than the Lee's, and I like the adjustable seating depth feature. I now have two, one each for SRP's and LRP's and they are now my go to primer tools.
