I was cleaning up a tube that was not installed on an action. I had it fairly clean (I think), but was still seeing traces of copper when i used copper cleaner. It was getting late, so I patched in some Patchout and, for good measure, stuck the bottle up to the tube and gave it good squeeze in to the tube....maybe 1/4 oz. I had already put the thread protector on the chamber end, so I screwed the protector on the muzzle end and gave the tube a shake/tilt...ect to make sure that the whole inside of the tube got a good coating.
One day later I was going to finish the job. i unscrewed the thread protector on the muzzle and dumped out the fluid. The liquid looked black to me, but just figured I was seeing things. Anyway...first patch....BLACK...WAY BLACK!! I was expecting some blue from the copper.
My question...did the Patchout find something that I missed in the BBL? Did it react and "eat" the durlyn? ( Not sure that it is durlyn (sp), but it looks like the same material that my Surefeeds are made of....black durlyn..durlon...whatever the spelling. I don't believe that it was carbon..I was under the assumption that you need to "mechanically" remove carbon....it does not dissolve.
To test, I cleaned up a thread protector a few min ago and filled it 1/2 way up with some more Patchout.....just in case no one has the answer. Will check it out Tuesday PM
What say you?

Poatscript...as I wrote this I had said tube soaking in Sweets. Patch came out white....zero copper.
