LEARNED FROM 20 SHOTS WITH DASHER BRASS

One shot Norma brass. Missed this after the shot, during annealing, sizing and doing primer pockets. Only shot one time. You guys are right.

It's just like fire forming.

I don't have a dasher, so I don't really have a dog in this fight, but....

I just ran the numbers for a 105 hybrid at standard environmental conditions(0ft elev, 29.92 hg, 59 f, 78% humidity) and 10 mph crosswind. There is a .58 moa difference between 2900fps and 3050 fps. Why not find a lower node that more than likely will shoot lights out. Shoot all your brass for a round or two, and then bump up to a higher node if you wish.

I shoot tactical matches, so I run lower nodes anyway. I only run 140 hybrids a touch over 2700 fps in my 6.5x47. I refuse to spend money on entry fees, travel, hotels, etc to show up to a match with ammo that could possibly cause pressure issues due to heat or rain.

Merit to what you say. Only thing is .58 MOA is about a foot @ 1000 yards. I have never gotten anything running much slower to shoot well.

Of course, I really have not tried. Appreciate the comment.

I like the new dasher brass in my rifle it shoots better than my formed lapua brass. . no problems with the primer pockets, shot some pretty heavy loads with them, sill holding up. give it high marks. i ordered more.

All I know is my rifle likes this brass.
And shoots like this
43338-b8b33baccd7b9a286d03f21f422a6066.jpg

can see pic better here http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/the-dasher-100-yard-challenge.3896674/ on page 10

By the way i shot what i call a heavy load that was enough to pierce the primer and the primer pocket held up good.

It looks like you are running a standard dasher here if my eyes are not messed up I see a little reamer chatter on your shoulder.

Well today I had overcast an went an shot the norma brass in its full length I shot at 300 yds here is my 6 shot group with 2 different neck bushings this brass has got 19 firings on it the seating pressure on primers is respectable is it the same as lapua as far as primer feel I will not lie an say it is.
P.S. the bushings were 265 an 266 my velocity is 2940fps av if I do my part in the wind I feel it will be competitive on game day.

Are you kidding me? Recommend loads? You must be out of your mind to suggest something filled like that.

Shiraz

I try to stay reserved when people get out if line but I am sorry, that comment is just out of line.

Please turn to your Berger Bullets Reloading Manual (1st Edition 2012) and lookup the 6mm Dasher and you will see the author of that section to be me (Robert Whitley) and you will see a whole host of recommended loads there for the 6mm Dasher. They provided the loading data but I tested out and re-confirmed a lot of them.

So far on this thread you have essentially tried to discredit me because I have brought forth some truthful facts relating to your new Norma brass which you don't consider flattering, and you have essentially suggested that I am ignorant and out of my mind - - not exactly what a customer wants to hear!

To all others - - if you are new to the game and want some good recommended loads for the 6mm Dasher - - please procure a Berger Bullets Reloading Manual - - but I caution you to be careful - the new Norma brass may not be up to the "max loads" listed.

This is getting ridiculous. Especially from two giants in the sport.

I think if Lapua would have made brass for the Dasher, and kept the neck length, etc to one of the spec reamers shooters are currently using this would be an apples to apples debate, but it's not. Up until now 6 Dasher was a wildcat, no matter how easy it was to make. The game has changed, and the people responsible for bringing the Dasher out of wildcat status get to make the rules. It's that simpled.

Trying to force a new spec brass into an old spec chamber is going to cause issues. Trying to run your old "go to" loads with new brass and chambers is going to cause issues. Trying to use new spec brass in old spec dies is going to cause issues. I don't care what was discussed during the 2+ year wait, it's here and it is what isn't is.

Fight this all you want, but the current state of affairs is Norma just re-wrote the Dasher. Like it or not.

Perhaps you are right - - like Shiraz - - I too will log off this thread - - maybe that's the wise thing for all of us to do at this point.

Thanks for your input!

Best regards,

Robert

I just logged back in to delete my post but it seems it's too late...

You guys are my "go to's". It's hard seeing Mom and Dad fight. That's all I'm getting at.

Kind of sorry some of you got upset with the way this post went. Sure I have an old-spec. chamber in my new Dasher. Said that when I mentioned I had to cut back the neck lengths. Bostrom built the rifle before the brass came out. I just never tried to shoot it. Wanted to share my experiences with the brass. Surely many here are professionals that source and spec. reamers to chamber and build their own rifles. I also think a great many of us have no ability or experience doing something like that. We do have Dasher rifles and might like to use this new brass.

Without any remote thought of hostility toward the product or anyone, I shared my experiences. No way could or would I afford to spend another $700 for another barrel and getting it threaded, chambered and fitted with tuner for the action. I hoped I could just load and shoot without fire forming. Not the case. That's the conclusion and I was happy to report that. Gave and showed the details why.

Did another post this morning about treating yesterday. Confirmed. The brass is fine in an old chamber size. Just realize it's different.

Thought doing all this work and sharing it was a helpful thing. Some people sure make it a hurtful experience. Others appreciate. So be it. Let this post die. It's one of the consequences you face dealing with the "general public".

For what it's worth CaptainMal I appreciate you posting and sharing your results. It's like anything, you can't always use everything someone says but you can always pick and choose what will help you. I think alot of good information has come out about the new Dasher from some real fine shooters on this forum. It sure has taken alot of the guesswork out of it for me.
