lapua test center, time from request to test?

I shoot matches and I shoot a lot! 2 cases will last maybe a season and a half. I'm flying in to test and hopefully find some magic lot# for mine. I've don't have enough ammo left now to finish the season. If I found some that shot incredibly well in mine I would buy 30 to 40 thousand. Not like the barrel will wear out. I don't mind going back down, just not every year.
There is always a chance I won't find anything that shoots as well as what I'm running now. I am bringing some of mine with too to see how it compares. I get the whole ammo/ powder/primer shortage thing. I've past on primers and powder I've found locally because I'm well stocked.
I'm not re-selling, I'm shooting.

Just because someone has deep pockets, why should they be allowed to buy up all the ammo at the expense of someone else being allowed to even shoot at all! Good on Lapua for setting limits! This is meant to be fun for all, not a select few!

Before the current ammo shortage reared its ugly head, people were mostly buying bulk ammo, and I was still able to order in lot samples to do my own testing. But even then, if there was any sort of shipping delay, or if the weather was too crappy to allow me to get meaningful results with my testing, or if I was too busy with farm work to take a few hours off on a day with decent conditions - if any of those things caused a delay in me getting the lot samples tested, the chances of finding any remaining quantity of a particular lot that shot well for me always went way down. Reason being that a lot that shoots really well in any one of my custom barrels is likely going to shoot really well in many other quality barrels, which means other shooters who've tested are going to be buying up all of that lot they can find. So unless someone is chambering with a wide variety of different reamers & barrels, a good lot is likely to shoot very well in a range of rifles.

The biggest difference a chamber can make I've seen recently was with a CMP-sourced Win M52D I bought a couple of weeks ago. I pulled a Ken Vianni scope rail off one of my CMP 52D target rifles and moved it over to this recently purchased CMP 52D so I could mount a good scope & see how the rifle shoots with a good lot of Center-X (the lot I bought after testing a Krieger barreled V-22 repeater at Mesa a couple of years ago). There was so much vertical in my 50yd C-X groups that I was initially very disappointed in the purchase of this rifle. But after cleaning the bore and gathering up the remnants of lot samples of Eley Match & Match EPS from three years ago, the vertical essentially went away, and groups with all of several lots of Eley were better than the best I'd managed to shoot with C-X. After borescoping this 52D bbl, I don't believe the chamber has been touched with another reamer since it left the factory, so it's a safe bet that it's the original Match 52D chamber. The rest of the bore didn't look good enough to make me consider setting the barrel back and re-cutting it with an EPS or Nevius reamer. But, as a lot of shooters who've examined 22RF bores with a quality borescope have found, appearance often doesn't tell the true potential of a barrel. This one's got a lot of chatter marks on the lands from when Winchester reamed the gun-drilled bore, and the bottom lands of the bore are worn enough to have smoothed out this considerable chatter - yet it still produced some fairly decent 50yd groups with the Eley ammo.

cdiver, Good luck hope you find something really good. please confirm if there is a limit on how much can be bought. also if you remember please check with Devan on if the vise can still be made to recoil.
the last time I was there I was given a deal where if I bought 5 cases or more it shipped for free, plus I got a discount on each case. between me and two of my friends we bought 8 cases.

Lee
Hi Lee no no recoil and I was only allowed 2 case's. For those that complain about buying all the ammo, the ammo you get at the test center is not for sale to the general public it is for test center purchase only.

Well I just got back from the Lapua test center in Mesa. Devan was fantastic to deal with! Great experience for sure. He's seen a lot of rigs come through and is super knowledgeable. I didn't find a magic lot#, but pretty damn good one. If your thinking about doing it, don't! If at all possible, do it in person. It's 30 minutes from the airport and it can be done in 1 day. Really, by the time you ship and insure both ways, it's really not that much more to go in person. Great experience, I'll definitely do it again.

Is this the number to call to set up a appointment?
480-898-2748 ?

I would love to go

I just went to the Mesa info site and filled out the appropriate information. Coordinating a flight with sufficient lots to test was the challenge. If your mailing it in, it may not be an issue. Ask how many lots they have to test of all the flavors you're interested in. Don't discount the Biathlon series. Mine preferred the Biathlon X.

Thanks Moondog,
I’m in Tennessee so I probably drive up. It’s about a 6 hour drive for me.
I’ll see if I can get a appointment set up..

I was there on Tuesday, found a decent lot#, ordered from Good Shooting Inc. on Wednesday, Ammo showed up Sunday.

You could easily spend over $50 trying random lot #s in various flavors on your own. This is a no brainer.

I've been calling and emailing, filled out the form 2-times, NO RESPONSE.
Since Early May 2021.
I email Customer Service. They responded and sent Luke multiple emails for me. NO RESPONSE..
Now it's Mid July... At least let me know something...
Luke might be a nice guy..... THAT'S VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I agree. I’ve been there and it was a good experience, but being a nice guy doesn’t make up for bad CS. I’m hearing this from multiple sources, too bad.
