Lapua does not recommend re-annealing?

Curious, what is your average number of Lapua brass firings with a normal load? 10?....15?....20?.... Also, how often do you anneal?
Ben

Since Lapua doesn't make WSM brass, I use NORMA. With annealing I can up to 50 firings. It is pretty tough brass. I usually replace my match brass at around 10 to 15 firings because I feel its giving up an edge in accuracy after that. Matt

Look at it this way: If you don't anneal, the necks WILL split from work-hardening! I don't have an idea of when that will take place, however, it will.. Anneal and keep your brass malleable and it will last A L-O-N-G time! Which postulation do you think will create more sales?
Conspiracy?!!

Conspiracy?!!
Actually, you're partially correct. Detroit, Michigan, via THE BIG THREE, perfected a business policy known as "planned obsolescence"! Lapua may be trying to modify that, and I call it "planned early demise"! However, it amounts to the same thing! You may have it right after all!!! LOL!!

With a temp of 500 to 550c. That is 932 to 1022 F. So I agree with the temp. I have a few concerns about how much heat travels up the case and I’d like to see adjustments on the immersion depth but other than that it looks about right. If that is the method you want to use.

Well it seems easy to use and well priced compared to some other set-ups. Is this something you would consider if you were getting into annelling. TKS

Hey all,

Was in Lapua’s website and for the 6.5 brass, they say they do not recommended Re-annealing their off the shelf factory annealed brass. Is their a reason for this? I know most on here anneal every time If I’m not wrong. So why does lapua say this and are they correct?

Probably because they are concerned about liability when some "real go getter" has an uninformed (informed, if you ask them) go at annealing their cases and has a chance at winning the Darwin Award. I heard about the "real go getter" that was "brighter" than the rest of us and didn't need any of the fancy tools you "fools" are using. He just tossed his cases in the oven on a cookie sheet set at something like 5-800 degrees. Fast, easy, no fuss.

Probably a lawyer legal thing. If they say it's ok to anneal and something bad happens they may be legally responsible.

I start all my brass prep by annealing brand new brass. Your going to ask why, so I’ll tell you. Several years ago I was using the COW method to form 6BRX from 6BR. I didn’t anneal because it was Lapua brass. I lost 13 cases out of 200 to split shoulders! Since that day I anneal every case that I work on unless the customer specifically tell me not to.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

I'm the newbie here, I anneal using a socket and time it. What I discovered was that my neck tension got better immediately in both my 6 br and 243 and my longer range groups in my 243 got better. I only have 10 firings on my 6br brass bUT it's still got tight primer pockets. So I think it's worth it.

Same reason they dont make 6ppc brass but make 220 russian knowing aint nobody shooting a 220russian. You modify it you own it in court. I know i wouldnt want the liability of the pressures ppc cases see
Not entirely. Lapua knows these 220 Russian brass cases are used to reform to 6 PPC. So they have the liability to make sure they’re suitable for that purpose and will work to CIP 6PPC pressures.

Maybe they haven’t worn out the tooling yet? I don’t think 220 Russian is made more than once a year.

Id like to know how many they make. Maybe kevin could fill us in. I know most every ppc shooter that competes all season will go thru 1000+ cases. Ill go thru 100+ on a weekend match- 150 if a 10shot unlimited is going. Nobody i know goes thru more components and barrels than a ppc shooter. 15-20 barrels at a time, 10,000 bullets, kegs of powder, gallons of butchs- its insane to think of what it takes really.

I've done tests where for several f class matches I shot relays with annealed brass and some with non annealed all else equal. Not enough to be truly scientific but in my no turn 6br with light neck tension it did seem to improve and reduce the number of fliers. Seating with a Wilson it also felt like the seating pressure was more uniform. However now using a bra with more neck tension and turned necks it does not seem to make a difference after 5 firings.
Intuitively it makes sense to me that annealing would matter more the thicker the brass neck and the less neck tension you have. We need to all chip in a few bucks to sponsor somebody to shoot a thousand rounds with 100 pieces of brass. 50 annealed each firing and 50 not and see what results come of it on target.
I honestly would pitch in on something like this if it was some doing it that is experienced. Hmu, if need be. I'd say let's do 200 each 400 total.
