How does Lapua Center X compare with others?

Shoots great in my rim fire rifles. I quit using all Eley for CenterX.

But a rimfire is a rimfire is a rimfire .... and they are fickle creatures so... YMMV.

Yes they are crazy . I have a bench 54 annie I shoot 4 different types of ammo through depending on the temperature alone.

I heard better, but every rifle is different. I have 2 bricks coming to try it out myself.

Rimfires are crazy.... I have had a 64 MS loaned out and got it back this morning. I had loaned the gun without every firing a round through it. When I got it home this afternoon I stuck a Weaver 36 on it and went out to my backyard "range" and tried out some various ammo. Winds to 8-12 at pretty much full value so 50 was as far out as I went.

I guess this really shows nothing but it struck me as funny that in this case the "cheap-er" ammo out performed the "good sh*t" but a considerable margin. This is also the first rimfire that I have that did not shoot the CX very well.....

Ditto. but again depends on your what your rimfire rifle REALLY likes. I use it to practice because Lapua Midas+ works even better for me. But my 64mpr is REALLY addicted to Federal Ultra Match UM22 that I've used in several local matches and walked away a winner or in the top three where there were a number of custom Rimfire Rigs I was competing against. Bottom line, until you test, you won't know and you simply cannot depend on how it shoots in another Rimfire Rifle even if of the same make and model (if it's ultimate accuracy you seek).

Same here lol I have 1 1/2 boxes. My rifles don't like that or the Federal Match either. But the UM is the worst.

The last two posts just goes to show how different rifles like different ammos and how sensitive Rimfire Rifles can be. I have some shooting buddies who shoot Annie 54's (all tricked out and with tuners) and use Eley Tenex for competition shooting. They get so so results with UM22 (not nearly as good as I do) and mine hates the Eley Tenex (although I doubt crack pipes would improve my scores). Like I said, won't know until you test some.

My Kimber likes the UM22 better than Tenex as well.... Shoots decent with Edge and wolf. You just have to get a handful of different ammo and try it. You will never know until you do. Each rifle is a total different animal to feed and you must find what it likes. Matt

I shot several three shot groups with my Anschutz 1907 while adjusting my Ezell tuner. I used Eley Match and Lapua CenterX and one group with Eley Match measured .002. It looks like I only shot 1 time but three are three in one hole.

Like others have said, nobody can say how good it is until you've shot it through the intended rifle. In some of mine, it shoots better than Match; in others, Eley club shoots best. Believe it or not, in my 1712, Eley SS HP shoots better groups than the Center X. I suggest buying a couple of boxes and testing it. That's the only way I know to be sure.

Lapua Center-X shoots better than Eley Match in all my guns (even the BSA!) , and in a few guns it shoots the same as RWS-50, Lapua is consistently better in this price range.

Eley Tenex will usually be equal or better than Lapua Center-X for me

Our Club shoots every Thursday at 50 and 100 yards. We have found that weight sorting the Center X is needed to avoid the OS! round periodically.

But in doing this the ammo shoots very well.

George & I belong to the same club & shoot the same matches. He forgot (or neglected) to mention that he weight sorts his Eley Match, too. Every once in awhile he gets lucky (rarely)and beats me. ;D

I bought a case of Center-X recently, and have shot up a couple bricks of it. I don't weight sort (tho maybe I should, I dunno) and IME it shoots just about as well as Eley Match and is cheaper. I've tried Center-X in 2 rifles; a custom 40X (Lilja barrel, Jewell trigger, tuned action and McMillan Edge BR stock, Accushot tuner), and an Anschutz 1411 with a TT trigger and McMillan Edge stock (no tuner.) The Center-X shoots well in both rifles, about like Match. Soon as I run out of Eley Match & Team I'll probably change over exclusively to Center-X unless something happens to change my mind.

The approach of predicting the relative performance of ammo brands by how one or two lots shot in a particular rifle is somewhat flawed. The rifle being in tune or not introduced variation as did the shooter and the conditions. Running lots through a quality chronograph in sufficient quantity to measure statistically valid Extreme Spreads and Standard Deviations is more objective. But no one knows how well a machine and operator were performing one day vs. another. Gambling several thousand dollars on an ammo purchase isn't my idea of fun.

Three years ago I found two lots of Center X that had outstanding ES and SD numbers; bought all I could get then shared the good fortune with several friends. They all reported it shot extremely well. Two years ago I helped a friend test eight lots of Midas. Not one performed as well as the Center X. Last year I purchased four cases of Center X, each a different lot. They were all very average - good enough for a local match, could expect a low 10 at 6 at 100 yards once in a while, but not something I'd take to a regional, state, or the nationals.

As far as weight sorting CenterX, the lots I've checked on a lab scale were so consistent there was nothing to sort. Eley EPS had a much bigger spread. Again, this is what I've measured. Someone else's experience could be different. I took the heavy and light EPS rounds and ran them through the chronograph. There was no statistical or velocity difference. In another test I backed off the firing pin spring in an Anschutz to where it misfired. To my surprise, rounds that fired on the second strike performed just as well as the others. I had always pulled them out not wanting to risk a bad shot due to primer or head space variation.

It is funny how much superstition and bias creeps into ammo perspectives. A friend that made the Dewar team last year did not want his Tenex tested; didn't want to know how it compared. Given his success who can argue.

I sent a barreled action down to the Lapua test center and the best results were Midus+.
But like folks have said it rimfire and you never know what your rifle will like till you try it.
