Lapua .22 Rimfire Long Range and Super Long Range

I checked the specifications on the Lapua website for Long Range and Super Long Range .22 rimfire ammo. The specifications are identical. So, what is the difference other than the price?

The Super Long Range is supposed to be the more accurate of the two. Probably lots run off the same machines and then tested and sorted by accuracy.
The same as they do with Center-x and Midas
You are right. In OUR TEST RIFLES the most accurate is SUPER LONG RANGE. HOWEVER ! That MAY not be the case in YOUR RIFLE. That is why you have to test and find the LOT of the ammunition type your rifle likes to be its most accurate with rimfire ammunition.

Gone are the days when I could buy a box of 5-6 different lots and test it out. Now it's grab what you can, when you can
Sending it to the test center seems to be the only way to really get lots tested and then you can only buy one case.
I've been buying whatever quality ammo that I can. Mixed makers and lots and trying to find the best that I have. Which is not necessarily the best out there. But it works pretty well

I tried the Super LR in a Ruger Percision Rimfire and a Savage Mark II and the fired cases would not extract. Center X in both guns would extract. Any ideas? Jeff

Lapua LR and SLR appear to be slightly faster versions of Center-X and Midas+.

Super Long Range, as has been mentioned already, are lots that performed better on the factory quality control testing that gets performed on each lot.

Bullets appear to be the same and BC is the same too.

I haven’t shot them at 100 much but at 50 they all shot similarly well.

I’ve used a couple of bricks of LR and SLR and really I’m happy that it’s another Lapua match ammo that’s easier to get my hands on.

Rim thickness may be affecting extractor engagement on the rim. Check this and have extractor claw modified by gunsmith if this is the case. Cartridge case has to be made to European CIP specifications which can vary somewhat from our SAAMI specs. This can be an issue with centerfire cartridge cases made in Europe also.

Nice customer service there in answering the OP's questions and following up regarding extraction issues by barefooter56. Thanks for that. Now how about getting some ammo back on the shelves and getting Arizona test facility up and running. (After that you can tackle world peace);)

Barefooter, I think our snag is that the comma is missing, this would be “Super, Long Range” ammo, you know, that symbol that Lapua likes to use instead of a decimal point in stating weights :)!

I was in Scandinavia recently, I saw that this affectionately regarded mascot is everywhere, and so I thought I’d _____ you little.

My favorite cartridge remains the ,338 Lapua mag :).

Super long range is more accurate and in many instances if you hunt can get the job done, due to its precision in quality rifles.Head shots at 100 yards are a cake walk with that ammo.

The decimal comma is not a Lapua thing. It's used as a decimal separator across most European countries.

Regarding the price difference between Lapua Super Long Range and Lapua Long Range, it reflects the grade of the ammo, not it's performance. While the grade of a variety of .22LR match ammo is never a guarantee of performance, a higher grade is often better performing than another of the same make.

All varieties of match ammo performance -- whether it's Super Long Range or Long Range, for example, will vary by lot. Some lots are better than others. Some lots of the less expensive Long Range may perform better in your rifle than some of the more expensive Super Long Range. The only way to know is by testing.

After receiving a case of Long Range, checked the dispersion of the rounds. It took three boxes to get to a full box of the same number. I believe that there is enough outliers to cause fliers in a group. These numbers are not the numbers that I generally get, because stupid me dropped the gauge and broke the indicator on the gauge. So I had to use one with a shorter stem. Consistency was still there, just a different read out on the new gauge.
