lanolin and alcohol for case lube

Like the nail board idea. Looks like I got myself a project.

On a second note, when do spray inside the case?
I spray inside if I'm doing a full length size with an expander ball, which is all of my 300BLK and 5.56 brass. With my precision rifle rounds in 6CM, I use a neck expander mandrel instead of the expander ball and use graphite, so I don't want lube inside the case.

I use 12-1. I use 1 oz liquid lanolin to 12 oz Liquid Red Heet. Never had a problem with it. Put it in a big spray bottle and shake it before use. Put your brass in a gallon zip lock bag spray four to six sprays. Close the bag and gently shake then put it in loading block for about 5 minutes or long enough for the alcohol to flash off. Resize and I always tumble in a rotary tumbler ( harbor freight) with hot water and dawn. I do not want any form of lube going in my chamber. Always make sure to give the alcohol time to evaporate. It works like a charm.

I’ve tried just about every lube on the market as well as the lanolin mix, and what I use now is 1 ½ oz of Hornady LIQUID case lube (not the wasteful aerosol) mixed with 12 oz of red Iso-Heet. The liquid does not affect primers or powder, no post-lube cleaning required. Just a couple sprays in a ziplock bag, shake, let the alcohol evaporate for 15 minutes, and reload. Leaves a nice slick (NOT sticky) coating on the brass that stays for weeks stored in another ziplock. How I came about this is another story….but this mix really works great.

Does the Red work better than the alcohol?
I don’t know. Never used the straight alcohol. The Red Heet is 98.5% isopropyl alcohol. The reason I used it is it has a higher alcohol percentage than the other I could get and I don’t have to search hard to find it.

Another plus on the Red Heet is you can use it in your car to remove any condensation in the fuel tank and you can buy it separately or a 6pk. which is how I get it.
