Labradar US Version with CE Mark?

Hi everyone,

i am currently checking options to get a Labradar as US Version to Germany. However, local regulations require the CE Mark which basically proof that the power is reduced by 30%. Usually this mark is on the housing. Can anyone check their US Labradar Version for this Mark?

I asked Labradar if the difference between the US and EU version is just the Software or whether there is also a Hardware Difference or ID Interlock. But the reply is not totally promising. Maybe one of you have an answer for that?

Why not buy the EU version? A US version is obviously not compatible with EU restrictions and you might get trouble importing it.

Perhaps the restrictions are not with the importing into EU, but the exporting from the US. I've found this is more often the issue - try to buy certain things from Amazon for example and they simply won't ship because there are export restrictions on those items...

Anyways, seems like this is NOT due to Export regulations, but indeed with the import regulations of certain counties (seems all countries other than US, Canada, Aus and Nz) don't like the power levels of the OG LabRadar...

This from their FAQ:

Can Labradar be sold outside of the U.S.​

Yes, however due to foreign government regulations units sold outside of the United States, Canada and Australia and NZ will be set to the low power setting. The accuracy of Labradar remains the same, but the ability to track the projectile will be reduced by approximately 30%. Currently all units are being sold in the US and Canada. Export sales will begin sometime in 2016.

thanks guys. the thing is that EU/Germany needs the CE sign which proofs that the power levels etc are in compliance with local regulations. It seems that just the software is limiting the power output and thus the range. Surely i want the full range, but this i can get only with the US version of the software/hardware. The latter i am not sure if there is a difference.
Anyways, the German custom officer checking the unit for its CE mark. This confirms to be in line with the EU regulations and thus there should not be any trouble with the importing of such unit. The custom officer will not be able to check the radar power...
if someone asks why i have imported such unit: Well even if i buy it in the US, Ship it to germany and pay custom fees, its still about 100€/120USD cheaper than buying it here.

I, too, got tired of waiting on Brownells. Ordered mine directly from LR (same price). They promised four weeks, took three weeks and four days.

CE is the European version of NRTL (aka UL). Ensures the device doesn't catch fire, is generally safe, and may include electromagnetic emissions checks. It's a different reg, but I'm also curious whether magnetosphere has done this testing. It may also require WEEE approval which is lead and toxics free for electronics / circuit boards; similar to our RoHS. Quite possible EU and US devices are not similar, as these requirements may warrant diverging design mods.

I mention This as i know if one is operating a non FCC15 compliant device in US, it's possible that you could be tacked with a massive fine.

Yes. I believe they are in Trois-Rivieres, QC; about halfway between Montreal and Quebec City on the St Lawrence river.
