Kelbly atlas tactical?

whats your thoughts on this action? About to send my parts to the smith and for some stupid reason I’m having second thoughts on this action. Sell and buy something else, or build with confidence?

For what type of shooting?

My apologies. It’s mostly just for target (not competing what so ever), and the odd coyote/deer hunting but very rare. Built a custom 260 a couple years back and wanted another to bring out.

Is there a reason you asked? Better for a certain style?

.............Sell and buy something else, or build with confidence?

Hang on..... my interest is piqued. What does this MEAN?? "sell and buy something else" like WHAT pray tell?

You seem to be sending out the message that "you're not CONFIDENT with a Kelbly action..."

So who ARE you "confident" with???

OP,
For your stated purpose, that Atlas will do everything you need and so much more. If for some reason it has a glitch, The Kelbly family with make it right, right now. I don't know what other product you are looking at, but it will have to go a fer piece to be better than an Atlas.
Buy with confidence.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

I’ve just never used kelbly before, and it’s a lot of money to drop for all the parts to second guess. I was great up until a couple days ago when someone mentioned there bolt stop being problematic and another gentleman said “I’ve heard lots of people complaining of the atlas tac not being what they thought” and then I got nervous. I got a great deal on it and is the reason I went that route in the first place but just don’t want to be unsure when I sent my parts off next week. So if there was doubts I wanted to clear the air or sell and purchase a new action

I own one - love it. Very slick and reliable, just want you want in an action designed for practical/field use.

I have one with a single shot coned bolt nitrided. I have a barrel from a previous grizzly 11 action. it is a match grade 25 br. all I had to do is buy the ring to fix the headspace from kelblys and it shoots just as accurate the grizzly. a true low 1's barrel. build your rifle and don't look back.

Cant think of a better company to deal with and they make great actions

This ^^^^

I have purchased from the Kelbly family many times over the last several years. The customer service has been exemplary - going WAY beyond the standard, and their actions and rifles have been competitive winners for me.

Buy with complete confidence.

You should not be nervous of the Kelbly's maybe some of the new actions popping up over the last few years, but not Kelbly's. They sell an extreme duty bolt stop if you plan to be hammering on it.

The problem these days is that it’s easier to complain than diagnose a problem. Might be a cleaning issue, might have been put together wrong. Kelbly’s actions are top shelf. Don’t worry about those rumors.

I have the Atlas tactical in a 6Bra. I liked it enough to get a Black Bear for a long action build. I heard they had issues with the earlier bolt stops. Mine is solid and I run it hard.
It took a bit of muscle memory to get use to the mechanical ejector though. I feel it's very slick and smooth. I have 3 Bighorns TL2s for comparison.
Buy with confidence.

JRS is asking this question in order to help determine if there might be a better action for your endeavors, that's all. In your case, I think that the Kelbly action is a good solution. Their actions have all worked extremely well for the builds I've used them for. And, as noted above, they are a fine company of upstanding folks who contribute to the betterment of the shooting community. :D

Best of Luck on your project!

One of the guys that shoots for Kelbly’s tactical team belongs to the gun club that I belong too. Run into him at the range quite often. He’s using an Atlas Tactical and told me it’s has 20,000 rounds on it. Says he puts a barrel a month on it.

OK, good answer. I can get with that :)

I own or have owned most of the custom actions, I'm also one of the guys who complains wishing they were slicker........ but I understand that this is a materials issue not a mfg, quality or tolerance issue. Stainless Steel is soft like lead and sticky like peanut butter.

And they shoot fine.

It is my opinion that true tunable accuracy is about control of vibration. NOT "elimination of" nor "lessening of" vibration but simply building around a consistent centerline. Different builders choose this "centerline" using different methods and the centering of different points but the theory, the method is consistent. The big difference between a custom action and a factory action is that due to manufacturing setup and method a custom action should be a more consistent base upon which to build.

That said, IMO the most important factor is WHO BUILDS IT. Some guys can make a winner from a Rem700, some guys (MANY guys) can make complete hash of any custom action you provide them.

Words are useless,

opinions vary,

but the logic-based opinion of one who has been in your position, spent the money multiple times with varying results should carry more weight than that of some salesman at the LGS or the guy in the Creedmore Aisle.

Logically, reasonably and really the Kelbly is a fine choice upon which to build.
