Kaboom combinations

Had a good friend that fired a 308 round in a 270, he lived, and so the did the rifle, in fact, rifle got a clean bill of health after a thorough check by the local gunsmith. We hunted together next deer season and he filled his tag with the 270.

How did it happen? Alcohol was involved, he was very, very fortunate the outcome wasn't worse. He and a friend were hunting desert rats on outskirts of Las Vegas. Still remember him handing me the 270 case and asking me to guess what happened. It was basically straight wall except for slight hint of where the 270 shoulder should be. His 270 was an early 80s Savage 110.

Savage 110's seem to be remarkably strong. It was a 110 that fired the most severe overload I ever saw. The load consisted of 58 grains of what appeared to be Red Dot behind a 180, in a 30.06. The shooter was unhurt and from a distance, the rifle looked normal (it really wasn't). It had to be on the edge of being a grenade.
As I mentioned, one fellow shot three 7x57 loads through a 270, in a Savage. He said it seemed to kick harder than usual, and the group wasn't great. Then he noticed the fired cases looked odd and the primers fell out, so he brought it in for me to look at. It was fine. WH

A guy at the range where I shoot blew up 3 AR-15-s in one summer - they were 5.56 chambered and he fired
.300 blackout in all 3 of them. He was not injured remarkably. He was well up in years and he was finally convinced to quit shooting all together. No bystanders were injured either.

I have a buddy that was trying to shoot 338 federal cartridges out of a 338 win mag rifle. During the ammo shortage he went to the store and asked the clerk for a box of 338's and that is what they gave him. Fortunately, the firing pin and the primer never touched each other. I don't know what if anything would have happened but I'm glad God was watching out for him.

Had another friend that bought a 308 marlin lever gun at a gun show and didn't realize it is not a typical "308" as in 308 winchester. Try helping a guy find ammo for that fart in the wind.
