Great article on the various fighting knives issued to the USMC during WWII in the new American Rifleman. The Corps were issued over 966,000. They were also issued to the Army, Army Air Corps, and the Navy as well.

My third tour in RVN, the 23rd INF (Americal) was split, and the 106th LIB was shipped to Danang. We had gotten Rangers from Big Red One (1st INF Div) and Tropic Lightning (25th INF Div) when Nixon stood entire divisions down enmass, doubling our size. They asked for volunteers, and since I had gotten promoted to Sgt and my own team, I volunteered us for the move. One of my guys asked why we would move to a new AO. I said, "two reasons. One, the SeaBees had constructed a power plant in the bay. They called Danang "the land of the 24 hour generator... And, two, Danang had a 32,000 (?) square foot PX.".
We were on the HeliPad about 0430 hours the next morning, duffel bag and arms.

We took over the First Marine Recon Battalion's AO. As a wonderful parting gift when they went back to the "Real World", they left us two foot lockers full of Ka-Bars, still in the cosmoline. It was like Christmas. I still have one.

When I got to Camp Lejeune in 1978, one of the first things I did was buy a K-Bar at the PX. Left my issued one in my footlocker and took this one whenever we went to the field. It went with me on a Mediterranean deployment, many training exercises, all around the country, and eventually to Iraq and Somalia. Still have it. Semper Fi.
