Just ordered a Mauser receiver...

So, with a 1908 Dominican(via Brazil, via DWM) 98 receiver on the way, need to plan my next build. Thinking 9.3x62. Any thoughts on other medium bore options? Already have 2 8x57's.

And in addition:

Convenience will dictate the 9.3x62 which is a very good cartridge, easy to make or buy brass, high quality bullets are available and it has been easy to load for in my opinion. There is just a pinch of feed ramp work to get it running perfect.

My preference is the 9.3x64 Brenneke though for better velocity using the heavier bullets. It does require some work on the feed rails, feed ramp and the bolt face and extractor. But brass is available as are the proper bullets.

The Sako is very similar to the x62 cartridge as far as performance is concerned and brass is available but a little high priced except for hunting rifles shot infrequently.

The Mauser, like so many other actions, can be adapted to use a bunch of cartridges so spend some time looking around until you find the one you can't live without.

Enjoy the process!

I have two 9.3x62’s. I bought the first one to scavenge the action but after reading history I took it on a trip to Africa. Worked as the stories said.
The old man who ran the lodge asked what rifle I had brought, I said "A Husqvarna Mauser in 9.3.” "That is what I use." He says and gets up, and brings his out. Other than the scope the guns were identical, the wood grain matched. I had a new best friend.
I didn’t need a second one but was at a gun show and there was an essentially new CZ550. I picked it up, "Oh it’s a 9.3". The dealer asked if I knew what it is. I said I have one. Want another? Everyone puts it down when they see the caliber. Me- What deal will you give me? $400, rifle, dies, and 100 pieces of brass. I made it mine.

Go with a 9.3, you will not be disappointed.
