Just back from Colorado!

Oops! I just looked. It’s 6’ 8”. I bought the 2/3 weight and used a 4 weight line on it. The local fly shop had a Sage for $400. I said nuts to that and bought the cheapo to try. It’s a nice little rod for the price!

Yeah
That’s pretty short for a decent FP I like a nine footer.
I noticed that all the entertainers are young women’
Well, I was fishing nymphs close to the bank amidst lots of trees and scrub, so it worked great. The river was only 40-50 feet wide. I could hit the middle easily but the currents made for hard mending. I had an eight weight 9 footer with me too, but the little rod was more fun and challenging. Years ago, I read a story by Lee Wulff about using a shorter rod. He even fished for Atlantic Salmon with one. I figured I finally had to try it.
The staff was split 60/40, girls to guys. I didn’t seem to get many pictures of the guys.:p

A 4 piece 6 ft. 8" rod? Did it come with a wallet so you can travel with it in your back pocket?
I have a 6 foot 2 piece Hardy bamboo rod, collected bamboo rods years ago. Every once in a while I'll get one out of the safe late at night, smell the old cork and wish it could talk. Would be interesting to know who fished it and where.

I bought a 6 ft. 6” rod in 4 weight just before I left, to try on the river. I used it most of the time because it was so fun. It handled those trout just fine!:)
Last bowhunt I was on in Colorado, we came across some fantastic trout water. No pack rods. No fishing gear whatsoever. Big rainbows just waiting to be caught. Beautiful location on the side of the mountain we hunted. Be worth just packing up to it to fish next time. Didn't kill an elk so if I had fishing gear, we'd have had better success.

Glad you had a great time. We got a lot of snow this year in Colorado and it's still in runoff stage. Heck last week Steamboat Springs got 18" of snow. They are talking of opening up the Ski Resort. Arapaho Basin will probably be open on the 4th of July.

That's a striper/bonefish rod, t'would have been just a bit of overkill.:p
Yup! It was a bit heavy for it. Years ago, my wife wanted to get me a “nice rod” for Christmas. I picked the R.L. Winston 5 piece 8 weight. It fits in my suitcase and goes everywhere with me. Salmon in Labrador, Stripers on Cape Cod, trout out west. I even took it Pike fishing in Manitoba, once.

I just sold off a few Cortland rods...but I kept the 2/3 6'6", the 3wt 8", the 4/5 and the 5 Wt classic trouts. i have a 3 wt fiberglass cortland rod that feels like bamboo. I have a 7 wt too, great for tossing bugs for smallmouth bass

I got all of them on the cheap since i knew a guy...

Sadly, since my son moved west i have not gone fishing with him or even alone.

All flyrods feel good but, I think the 3-4 Wt. rods feel like air!! I have a 2 Wt. Sage, I used to use for small cutthroats in Wyoming. What a thing of beauty.

I have a 2 weight Sage I wrapped 20 years ago. It's such an absolute joy to fish I bought a second blank that's parked in my closet along with several other flyrods.

Hang on to those rods, Snert. If things go as planned, I’ll have a piece of Wyoming by next Spring. My worry is my wife may get cold feet.
You’ll have to work for rent, tho. Gophers and Coyotes will need to be shot. Bears need to be scared off. Horses need to be excercised. Cabins built. That kind of stuff.
