Juggernaut 185 powders

My 308 Shilen barrel does not have a long throat. I have come up with a decent 4895 load but it's right at the ragged edge of transsonic @ 1K yds. I was working with some Varget and 4064 loads when life got in the way and I had to take a break from shooting. Now that I have some time, I wanted to try those two powders out again but I didn't chrono them back then. Based on experiences, would either of those powders give me any more velocity at the 1K mark?

I have a lot of all three powders so that would be my first preference but if there's a better one out there, I'd consider trying that as well.

Thanks

I shot a fair amount of them years back and used Varget. I only shot them to 600 though. 175 SMK's were less expensive and shot just as well, so never bought the 185's in bulk.

Know anyone with a throating reamer? If you plan to play in this area you may want to adjust. It's enough cost in bullets, powder and time to consider the change. Just a thought.

Might be something to consider.

Looking back at my data, .010 off the lands in this barrel required a COAL of 2.787. That doesn't sound like a long throat to me...

I use 4064 with 168,169, and 175 SMKs as well as 185 Jugs. I’ll have to go back and look but there’s still wasn’t much weight difference between them. I don’t think I shot the Jugs past 600 but the 175s were great at 1000. This was in a SAAMI chamber loaded at 2.8 overall.

Might find the N140 works better for those back east , than N150 . Especially with a 185 Jugg . I shot the 185 Jugg for about five years at 600 , but found out the hard way that they aren't quite as competitive when you go back to the Big Boy line . Especially if you are having a velocity issue , which makes me ask .
How long is your Barrel ? Velocity issues ; and shorter Barrels go hand in hand , and thinking a 26" or even a 28" barrel will be competitive at a Grand with a 185gr bullet is okay , as long as there is no wind . If the wind starts blowing , you're toast .
Most Competitors shoot some variation of 200gr Bullets , using the powders you listed , and also N140 and N150 , with a 30" or even longer , 32" or 34" barrel .

Thanks. Yes, it's a 24" barrel. I bought some 200-20X to try as well.
