The Jewell was the best trigger there was, at the time but it did not always stand up to usage. Field failures were not unheard of so many carried spares.
There are better triggers available now.

The demise of the company would not affect the patent but the patent office does not enforce patents. With the company gone there would be no one to defend it.Yes they did, but that would require research to ascertain if a patent is still valid after the business closes/ LDS
