Jewell Trigger Won't Cock

Borden action, Jewell trigger (BR), when I rack the bolt and pull the trigger it will go off but it may take 2 or 3 racks to get it to cock again. I cleaned the trigger with brake cleaner (nearly the whole can) and blew it out with canned air and reset it. No effect. The problem did not go away. Is it a bolt problem?

Send it in, may be a sear snapped off. I had this happen twice now but they took good care of it!

Twice? Yikes. That's hard to fathom. Even if they stand behind it, there's still the inconvenience, futzing with shipping it, and general aggravation.

Provided the trigger isnt broken you have to little sear engagement. If its in a hanger that can be the problem.

just had my Jewel worked over and it goes without saying these things can happen on the first shot of your business target.
My trigger sear was not resetting partly due to a failing/failed trigger spring (little spring behind the trigger shoe). In the process of working on the trigger, the sear spring (large spring) was slightly adjusted for also. There have been reports of this spring being at fault being the cause of cocking failure.

No simple answer but several things it could be.

My trigger is now blue printed and working well. (Trigger work done for me by a fellow shooter with boundless skills)

p.s I know your pain.

In addition to what was said above, I would make sure there is no grease or anything on the bottom of the bolt. When I got my new action and was breaking it in, I had something on the bottom of the bolt and I was having the same issue. I wiped the bolt clean and the top of the trigger clean, and regreased the lugs only and havent had any issues since.

Take the trigger apart and clean it. If you ever sit your gun muzzle up for any period of time cleaner, lube etc. may have run down & into the trigger. The lighter fluid won't touch it. You may be surprised how hard the crud inside there is to clean. You may have to soak some of the parts......Best of luck.

Back in my younger silly days of chasing the hell out of velocity I popped a primer or two. Had two Jewell triggers exhibit same failure to cock afterwards, occasionally at first then progressively worse. Both sent back to Jewell and fixed for a small price.

Last match failed to notice water from a mist dripping through overhead roof on firing line. Found two popped primers after shooting first string and a bunch of wet cases. Learned two things, wet ammo does increase pressure tremendously, and on wet Misty mornings my fingers aren't sensitive enough to notice wet cases. I will be keeping a close eye out for any malfunction.

I in no way say this as a dig on Jewell triggers, I am a big fan and have used many of them. They are just not built for the the over pressure of a blown primer.

Not saying this is cause of your issue but a possible factor.

I’ll send the defective trigger back to Jewell for an overhaul. If I feel lucky I might chance opening up that Pandora’s Box to behold the wreckage inside.

I have a panda action, it's an old action, not sure of the year. It has an unknown trigger on it. I purchased a new br Jewell to replace it. The new Jewell would not work. It would not cock. Seemed odd so I tried it in another action, it worked fine. I changed triggers around for 1/2 day. Never could find anything wrong with the triggers. My best guess is something in the bolt. The action still has the original trigger. Never have figured out what was up with it.

I guess this is the downfall of posting the same thing on multiple forums- i coulda swore i posted an offer to fix your trigger for free but thought it got erased. Found it on another post
