Jewell trigger repair

I did do a search on this but all the posts were 8-10 years old. I peirced a primer and now my trigger does'nt work. When I open the bolt it cocks but when I close the bolt it decocks. If I open the bolt and it cocks then put it on safety and close the bolt it stays cocked but as soon as I click the saftey to fire it goes off. It's a Rem 700. I know Jewell is out of business but is there any company that does repairs on Jewells ?

It needs taken apart and cleaned. Probably has piece of primer messing it up.

Most likely broke the sear off the upper lever. Usually the trash from blanked primers goes inside the bolt and causes ignition problems, not the trigger.
Nope, haven't heard of anyone doing repairs on Jewells yet.
No harm in taking it apart and checking for yourself though.

I've got a fair amout of spares for the Jewell's and get them up and running for people, when possible. On the models with a safety, the small articulating triangular lower lever can be broken when a primer is pierced. This lever isn't in the BR series triggers. See pic for the articulating lower lever.

Not trolling for 'business' but I'd be happy to take a look at it for you at no charge. If it's not fixable, the only charge will be return postage. If you want to go that way, don't take it apart...just send it as is.

is there a source for a replacement torsion spring? has anyone successfully wound and bent their own? i know of 2 BR triggers that went down due to the spring breaking.

They were made to spec. There's nothing commercially available for a drop in replacement. I've never seen a broken spring but have seen a couple like in the pics after the pin backs up and stack things together. But you can never say never with these.

Mine did the exactly same except I did not pierce a primer. The side plates on mine were bowed ever so slightly. Causing drag

Al, what are the parts made from. I always heard some type of hardened stainless and most were EDM cut.
If it came to it, I think I could make any of those pieces except a spring.
I found this in one of the user manuals.
Internal parts are 3/16″ 440C stainless steel, heat treated and tempered throughout to 58 Rockwell ‘C’ scale.
I wouldn't think the return spring would be that hard to make.

There are companies that do nothing but make springs. A sample could be supplied and cost quoted. It would be a quantity, they don't want to make 1 or 10. Another thing to consider might be patents held by the Jewell family. Then there is the cost to have parts made or to make them. I don't know why Jewell quit, they lost interest and had already filled their pockets, or the cost to manufacture? Many would like to have their Jewell Trigger repaired, but at what cost. Read through a thread on another forum, about O/U and S x S shotguns that had been deemed "not repairable", because no parts are available and the cost to make the need part is too high. If someone was to make Jewell Trigger repair parts, they might as well make the entire trigger!

Great to know you are willing to take a peep at issues with Jewells Bro.

From what I have heard that they did not have a patent was their undoing.

While Jewell triggers were wonderful in their time, they are pretty crude compared to a BnA or a Flavio.
