Jewell trigger dead after three shots

I would be curious to know exactly what has changed in the manufacturing process of Jewel Triggers.

I own several, I never had to “blueprint” any of them. All perform as they should by adjusting them as per the instructions.

I have known Arnold for years. I just might give him a call and get his opinion on this.
Jackie, I sure hope you get to make that call. I think this Internet chatter about Jewell Triggers needs to be snuffed out. Heck didn’t Bart just win the Tack Driver shoot with his!

Today I shot my 40X (it’s almost special) 220 Swift for the first time with a Jewell

HVRTSBR.

I used the B spring and set it at 6oz. Excellent trigger. It’s my 3 rd Jewell, the other two are their 2oz triggers, 1.5 on my rimfire. Those triggers will spoil you.
The HVRTSBR trigger replaced a Timney Calvin Elite . I never could get the creep out of the Timney and you have to take the action out of the stock to adjust the trigger…

I own 6 Jewell triggers and have the "C" spring installed in all of them. All of my triggers were purchased along with the custom builds included in the packages. I did get one that just didn't feel like any of the other ones after a few trips to the bench. A call to Jewell I got instructions to send it in. My builder (WSMNUT) sent me a replacement trigger so I would not be without while the odd feeling one was gone. I received the replacement trigger within a few days free of charge and actually I wound up purchasing the extra one from my builder. Needless to say I'm happy with Jewell. I have owned many after market triggers in the past and none of them felt like a Jewell.

Just anther datum for the thread: I had a Jewell fail-to-fire at a match after about 3000 rounds. It felt like something inside broke. I had to forfeit the match, then when I got home, I took it apart expecting to see broken metal, but just some grit and oily substance (probably cleaning fluid and bolt oil from the dozens of f-class matches it had seen).

I cleaned it up, reassembled/adjusted per Jewell and it worked fine for another 2000 rounds or so at which point I got another FTF at a match. This time I finished with a spare Timney that I now keep in my bag. The cause of this failure was that the pull-weight set screw came out. I later found the set screw and spring in my rifle case, so put it back with a little thread-locker this time. We'll see how long that lasts (it has outlasted 3 barrels).

Overall, I'd consider the Jewell to have performed well. It was my fault that I didn't keep it free of debris, and partially my fault for not checking the set screw (partially Jewell's fault for it losing its interference fit).

Yoowch! That was, "one dirty trigger!" Folks should note this, & never oil, or, allow oil/cleaning solvent to get into trigger - a good rod-guide will prevent this. T.K. Nollan used to make the great [BARREL SAVER] rod-guides - Dennis Wagner purchased T.K.s tooling and remaining inventory, and is now offering them for sale:
< dwagner35@cox.net > These gizmos save more than just the barrel.;) RG

P.S. I neither know Dennis, nor have a financial interest in his company - I have a good many of T.K.s guides, which always, "worked" as advertised" . . . except, better . . . DITTO my Jewell triggers!;)

I have a couple of Jewell triggers and I like them but there is one thing that surprised me about them.

When I was setting/checking all the firing pin and trigger settings, I substituted a light tension spring for the firing pin spring. The tension was light enough that I could easily pull the cocking piece back with my finger.

I was surprised about how hard I had to push on the rear of the cocking piece to make it break to the fired position.

On a 3 lever trigger it has to have stout downward pressure to set the lever. Thats why that trigger design has the angled cocking piece and sear to provide this pressure. The cocking piece trying to go forward pushes down on the sear. Light firing pin springs do not push it down hard enough. You can see how this works by having the trigger in your hand, pushing the sear down until it sets then itll fall when you pull the trigger. Youll be surprised at how much pressure it takes to set the sear

Well, the Geiselle Super 700 is installed and it is a nice trigger! But that's what I've come to expect from them. In fairness, about 25% more $ than the Jewell. Breaks a little over 2.5lbs in the second stage but subjectively feels lighter. I *really* like the feel of the end of the first stage..a definite hard stop, which suits my style of shooting best. I'll let a few rounds through before/if I mess with adjustments.
Since the gun was damn near apart it had a full deep clean, and... I actually got around to putting it into the Mega/Killer Innovations chassis I bought two and a half years ago, completely forgot about, and luckily spotted in a closet before I bought another chassis. Still, it's only been staring at me in my office for about a year.

Are you going to sell your Jewell to me or trash it?

Edd: Others have enquired about getting the Jewell, but it's in the trash. I am not a lawyer, but I have a decent understanding of personal liability law and how it works. I will not sell or gift what I know to be a faulty trigger. You might disclaim liability, but your estate or a third party could still come after me. Nothing personal (really) but $50 or feel good ain't worth it. Ask Remington.
