Jard Trigger

Has anyone here installed a Jard Trigger on a Sako S491 ? If you have can you tell me what you thought of it and was it worthwhile ?

I haven't used one on a Sako but I've used a couple on Commercial 98 Mausers and they are an excellent trigger. I'm currently in the process of switching a couple more over. If there is a downside to the Jard it is that the weight isn't adjustable. Not a issue for me as I know going in what weight spring I want in each rifle. They break extremely clean. In my opinion , an excellent value in a quality trigger. Leaves a Timney in the dust.

I have ordered a Jard to replace the factory adjustable trigger in my Ruger MKII VT 22-250. I just don't like that factory trigger regardless of how I set it- too much creep unless it became unsafe for field use. I could not find many reviews on the Jard (for the VT rifle) but going to give it a try.

"leaves a Timney in the dust"?? Really.....if that is the case than I think it I will like it just fine. I've never pulled a Jewell or Canjar but I like the Timney in a Rem 700. If the Jard is at least as good I will be a happy camper. I did order it with 1.5 and 2.5# springs so I can get two pull weights to try.

Larryh128, phil and rardoin thanks for your reply's, most people seem to be happy with the Jard trigger and I think the best option will be just to purchase one and see if I like it. rardoin has a good idea, get a couple extra spring weights at the same time.

Well, I replaced the factory 2-stage adjustable trigger in my Ruger MkII VT (22-250) with the Jard single stage. The install went without a hitch. No modification of the safety required (I understand the Rifle Basix, the only other option for the VT, does require some safety work). I ordered 1.5 and 2.5# springs and installed the 1.5# first. I could not get the creep even close to a desirable level without making it unsafe for field carry; it failed the "butt rap test". I then put in the 2.5# spring and I still have more creep than I would ideally like, but acceptable as I will mainly be shooting 'yotes in the field. With either pull weight the trigger is smooth with a very clean break, particularly with the 1.5# spring. The pull weight measured by a Lyman digital was averaging about 1lb 2oz with the lighter spring without much variation and with the heavier spring averaging 2lb 50z but had a bit more variation (from 2lb even to 2lb 9oz). This variation may improve with more cycles on the trigger.

Overall, for a $100 trigger, I'm happy with it. I do not like it as much as a Timney but it did not cost as much and they are not available for the VT. I found the brass shims used left much lateral slop in the sear and trigger but you get what you pay for. If it would have been a bushed pivot I would have been disappointed in the tolerance but, again, I wasn't paying for that kind of precision.

It definitely is much better than the stock trigger (2-stage...(I prefer single for the field)....and no 'smithing done) and I think it accomplishes what I desired. JMO...YMMV

UPDATE.....

after further adjustment...I was able to put in the 1.5# pull weight spring and get the Jard to safely hold sear/trigger engagement and pass a severe "rap" test. The creep is a little more than I desire for printing on paper from the bench but I'd rather keep the engagement erring on the side of safety. The break is very crisp and very repeatable at an average of 1lb 2oz with an ES of less than 2oz over a ten pull test. I'll take that for a $100 trigger. I'll probably put in the 2.5# spring for field use but lately it has been more of a range gun due to my father having fun working up different loads. By the time he is done I'll have this barrel shot out!!

My revised rating for the Jard is 3 thumbs up (price considered)
