A most happy Veterans Day to all veterans.
It’s a day to thank all vets for their service. It does recognize all vets living and dead. Always a bit confusing due to name changes and holiday status. Whereas Memorial Day is to honor veterans who have passed. That date to started with confusion as originally it was to honor vets who died in combat. That has basically changed to honor all deceased vets. Veterans Day as we now know it was signed into law with the date and national holiday status in 1978. Armistice Day thankfully faded away. It represented a catchy 11 hour of the 11th day of the 11th month name but in fact that armistice was one of many and the USA not only didn’t sign it they weren’t even represented at that signing. Next year was the Treaty of Versailles which we (USA) didn’t sign either.
I guess it’s an interesting history which is greatly misrepresented.
What is important is today. The correct name and every Americans job to thank a vet. To me it is OUR day.

Thank you for your service to our country doesn’t seem like enough to say to a veteran. They deserve our upmost respect. Because of them their service and sacrifice we live in a way that few others have known. I will be sure to thank a veteran tomorrow and I am sure more than one. Take the time and really think about the phrase “home of the free because of the brave” it really is truth. Thank you ladies and gentlemen of the armed services!

Our small town invited all the vets to the High School for a ceremony. Every student at the end shook the hands of the veterans. A local restaurant (The Joseph Cafe) gave a gift certificate to us for a free meal for today and also said we could get a free meal tomorrow on the actual date of veterans day. Great folks in rural America.
