It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Was a good few weeks away on contract. Nearly time to go away again and start all over again

A good friend of mine invites me to go hunting in Texas every year on a private 5000 acre cattle ranch. No high fences. This past December I was sitting in a deer stand and this thing comes walking down the road . At first glance I thought it was a horse but when it turned it's head I saw the horns. I grabbed my phone and texted the ranch manager and asked if we were allowed to shoot an Oryx. He said " sure if you see an Oryx you can shoot it". I found out later he thought I was joking because there were not supposed to be any on the ranch. I grabbed my trusty Rem. 788 in 7mm08 and not really sure where to shoot an Oryx I put the crosshairs behind it's right shoulder and squeezed the trigger. It went down immediately but got right back up and started running . I put another round in it on the opposite side but kinda far back. This time it was down for good. I texted the ranch manager and told him I had killed the Oryx. He laughed and said I thought you were messing with me till I heard you shoot twice. It took three of us to load it in a side by side after we gutted it. The meat is delicious ! This was a hunt I'll never forget.
