It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Nice buck Mike. WTHay is all that snow. You on a hunting trip again? Can't be Missouri. :D:D

We got hammered last night without much warning, was going south but something changed in the middle of the night. Around 7” and fell fast before light, had to drive without lanes up the highway. The Hwy department was still sleeping I think. Lol

In the last 3 years I've had a noticeable lack of deer here at my house. I don't have enough land to manage, just choosey about what I shoot. When I first built, I had plenty. Could see 6 to 7 feeding everytime I hunted. Camera out 8 weeks, corn, apples, landino food plot plus white oaks - I have 1 pic of a skippy jr. The farm next to me is cleared and they grow flowers. Particular ethnic group I will not mention as I am sure some of them have blended well with our culture. These folks make you yankees straw hat folks look inefficient. They have slaughtered, and I have nothing here. Can drive a mile up the road and watch 25 or so milling around in a hay field.
Oh well. Lt. contacted but I am probably low priority. Used to that, always have been.

Edit - sorry for the bummer post as this is a happy thread. Just needed to vent and you guys have been there done that. Thanks for listening.

Reb, I've got 'em running out of my ears this year...got a 300 plus acre construction project going on about a half a mile behind me, and they've cut everything bigger than a blade of grass...deer ain't got nowhere to go or nothing to eat on that whole spread, so all of them crossed the creek. ..deer, coons, squirrels , turkeys..more than I've ever seen on my little patch. So many that my Trail cam runs thru a set of batteries in about 3 days, and it takes an hour to sort thru the pics. Yesterday, going thru the pics, I could ID at least 6 different bucks, from buttons up to the one I posted above, and one 30 second video had 17 does and fawns in it. My little quarter acre food plot is grazed down to a mudhole. I ALMOST feel sorry for the deer, but not enough that I won't put a couple in the freezer.
I've heard that the 'complex' going in will bring over 300 jobs to the area, but, personally, I'd rather have the trees and thickets back...

Mike
There’s a lot of accomplishment’s on that wall. Congratulations!

Thanks, of course the real success in life is to live it the way you want to. Got a spot reserved for a bow kill, have my work cut out for me now that they have been spooked by the rifle season. Haven’t had a trail cam out since summer, may need it now to see what survived.

Here is the picture of the huge buck I killed. Oh, you can't see it? Well neither did I. Went to the farm that I have been hunting on for 26 years that had so many deer on it that for the first 15 years my buddy and I were the crop damage control people and we had to take 100 deer a year and the only evidence that we were making a difference in the population was that we stopped seeing pieball deer. The younger generation did not want to be farmers so they quit planting the farm and lost the damage program. We have hunted the farm continually and deer were thick. This year I sat for 2 1/2 weeks and saw ONE DOE. My hunting buddy saw only three deer. One 3 point buck and two doe. Black Tongue disease has hit this area of Halifax Co. NC HARD. It seems that it is only in a small area maybe 25 miles but it has done a number on the deer.

I’m glad you were able to save it. Very unusual.

He’s come to his senses about it now that I explained the situation. Probably numb, which is common for a non trophy hunter bagging a monster. Him and his family have already expressed appreciation of me stepping in. He’s a old friend and very special to me, so I owe him for all the mean stuff I’ve done to him. lol

My son got his first whitetail buck this year. 14 years old. He's shot a couple nice mule deer bucks in the past, but never a whitetail. Pretty nice specimen for his his first whitetail. So proud of him :)
