It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

It was about 6:20 a.m and I was in my box stand 16' off the groun, deer hunting I saw something dark and moving from 180 yds away. I got my ear protection on and he kept walking towards me. I first thought it was a dog and then said no it's a yote. I aimed at his lover chest and hit his spine. 243 / 65 gr Vmax / ~80 yds /DRT.. Boolet did not open up..took him to taxidermist to be standing mounted. Beautiful black coat with some silver on his chest.

Very nice!
I've never seen a coyote dark like that.
Thought it was a young wolf.
I've seen a few black coyotes. My Uncle saw one at his places several years ago and called me. He said "I saw something that I bet you wish you had", and proceeded to tell me that it was a black coyote. I replied "yes I do", and asked him whereabouts he had seen it. I went over and made two sets. On the second day I had him handcuffed. My Uncle, rest his soul, got a lot of enjoyment telling that story. Many off colored coyotes are crossed with dogs. I saw one once colored like a blue healer. I have also seen red ones with a white tip on their tail. They of course cannot interbreed with a red fox.

That’s a new one, never seen one that dark in the Texas area.

A friend took a skippy last night with his new Parker crossbow. I keep telling him no shoulder shots, go with the double lunger but his head is harder than a diamond. In my opinion he got real lucky, must have hit a major artery as there was no pass through, very little blood trail and the arrow stuck in the shoulder. Ran over a hundred yards through a standing cornfield and in to some weeds before dropping. Cheap, junk aluminum coreimage(19).jpg broadheads too, pic below.

I'll bite, WTH is a "skippy"?

A deer than a lot of experienced hunters would let walk and at least make it to his 2nd or 3rd birthday.
This was the unlucky one last evening.

Thanks, I have been enlightened! Not on purpose, but I hit mine this year almost as far forward. It was a 53 yard shot. I try to keep my bow shots 40 or less. When I hit this one the shot looked good. That is until he turned 90* and bolted into the woods. The arrow came out and I'm thinking how did that happen?? I was in a climbing stand so it took a bit to get down and over to the point of impact. What I found was about a third of the arrow laying there. When I field dressed him the rest of the arrow was still inside. It had hit the opposite rib cage hard, but not hard enough to go through. He probably only made it 35 yards. I heard him give a death moan as he crashed.

In the last 3 years I've had a noticeable lack of deer here at my house. I don't have enough land to manage, just choosey about what I shoot. When I first built, I had plenty. Could see 6 to 7 feeding everytime I hunted. Camera out 8 weeks, corn, apples, landino food plot plus white oaks - I have 1 pic of a skippy jr. The farm next to me is cleared and they grow flowers. Particular ethnic group I will not mention as I am sure some of them have blended well with our culture. These folks make you yankees straw hat folks look inefficient. They have slaughtered, and I have nothing here. Can drive a mile up the road and watch 25 or so milling around in a hay field.
Oh well. Lt. contacted but I am probably low priority. Used to that, always have been.

Edit - sorry for the bummer post as this is a happy thread. Just needed to vent and you guys have been there done that. Thanks for listening.

View attachment 1072508 This morning, opening day of muzzle loader in Tn. Very dear friend of mine made my day sitting next to me in the blind when he shot this one at 8:00. He's 80 (the guy with the beard).
I only hope I can make it to 80 and look that great. Good for him and thanks for taking a friend to get such a nice buck.

not sure about Sierra using noslers??? lol

LOL
I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that. Back in 80’s and 90’s I shot mostly bullets that came in the green boxes (with excellent results) and I always had said that if I ever had a daughter, that would be her name....

You might be a redneck if you name your daughter after the bullets that you shoot!!!!
