It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Tell us the story behind every cottage in Finland having a mortar beside the door. I had a friend up in Northern Minnesota whom I was up there coyote hunting with one January many years ago. When passing through a very small town, as in blink and you missed it, he mentioned that it was all Finlanders that lived there. He made the comment in his Norske Minnesotan dialect, "those Finn's are a clannish bunch". Never really understood how to take his meaning of that, and never forgot hearing him say it.
Well. Story behind this specific cottage goes like that: after WW2 when Finland signed peacetreaty with soviet union there was a big worry amongst people and especially within army that soviets would invade Finland. So finnish soldiers led by few officers did hide weapons for 30000 men guerilla army. In case of soviet invasion there would have been bitter guerrilla fight against soviets. Grandfather of cottages owner was one those people who did hide those weapons. And this mortar grenade is somekind of remembrance about that.
This weapons hiding plot was found out by communists and soldiers behind this plot were accused in trial and sentenced to prison. some soldiers did escape country, few of the to US and joined US army.
There was also lot of ordinary people, men who had came back from war, who did hide weapons for same purpose. When old house from my family ranch was about to be demolished 1982 my grandfather stopped my fathers work and showed one specific wall and said: inside this wall is one rifle and 300pcs ammo for that rifle. When my father opened that wall, there was indeed one MosinNagant and ammo for that. My grandfather and all of his brothers were members of White guard which was similar as your national guard. White guard was forbidden by soviets after war and I know that my grandfather who was patriotic man was afraid that if russians would occupy land there would problems(Siberian gulag) for those had been in White guard.
So I think that it might be good that if you have a mortar grenade or something smaller beside your cottage door ;)

Had some luck on my side yesterday evening and was able to get the 8 with a sticker pt down.
He either dropped at the shot or I just pulled high from excitement but arrow quartered in and was just poking out at the offside shoulder so worked out.
It’s been hot & humid, with stagnant weather in my area, so buck movement has been pretty lean. Made it that much more exciting to see this one on his feet in daylight. Lol

Bow season opened here today but I didn't go. My son-in-law went to the ER. Thought it might be a blood clot. The Dr. says no, but not sure what's going on. We'll get after them when he is better. 55th class reunion yesterday so I'm not quite as gung ho as I used to be! Congratulations on a nice buck!

Not much of a record but my oldest daughter shot her first deer on youth day today.probably a 1.5 year doe.. Used my old 30-30 with hornady lever evoulution. The scope has iron sight rings underneath so she shot low and missed. It just stood like nothing happened. Was about 35-40yds away. Told her to cock it and put one right through the shoulder. Still shot low but caught the lower chest. Ran about 100yds. Things been tight lately but told the wife we're paying for the experience for her.

Congrats to your daughter, and to you as well.
If you are lucky, you might get to take her daughter too!
Well Done!
