It's just not as much fun anymore

I’m doing what ever it takes to keep it fun, I try not to get caught up in all the high tec that we see and read about! I’m not one that always crosses my “T’s” and dots my “I’s” but I’m still competitive but I don’t get bent out of shape if I have a bad day. We have some I shoot with that get bent out of shape if they don’t win after spending a ton on the latest and greatist high tec . And usually after a couple of no wins you never hear them again
keep life simple and it will continue to be fun and who knows it just mite improve your health just by getting out and enjoying the day

I've heard the leading cause of injury in older people is thinking they are younger.......:p
There's, a LOT of TRUTH,.. in this statement ^^^^ !!!
It's NOT that, I can't Hike, in the Hills for Elk, anymore,..
It's the "tripping over", UN-seen objects, like, submerged, Lava Rocks or, Sticks with about, a 1/2 to 3/4 of an Inch, "Lip" on them that's, above ground !!. I "missed seeing", a 1/2" lip of lava rock with my Bi-Focals and broke a Bone in my Hand from, reaching out to, SAVE myself ( and Rifle ) like I did, 4 years ago, in Northern Arizona.
God Forbid that, I ever Hit my Head, on a Rock when,.. Falling / Tripping !
My son brings, a small Army Shovel with Him when we, "Go Deep", just in case,.. I don't,.. make it !
You'd better, KNOW your Limitations and, also just, HOW BAD, do you really want to, Kill, One More,.. Deer / Elk !!!

AFTER MUCH, serious "Evaluation" of the above Subject,. I felt much better with, giving away my .270 WSM Elk Rifle, to My grandson, who's out, Hunting Elk, today with, my son, in central Idaho.
I sure do hope that,.. he gets to use it !

Chris we both know the same people that shoot BR. When they ask "how are you" my usual answer is "it does no good to complain, no one listens and no one cares".
Some of them will tell you what ails them but none of them complain, and I think most of them are not on the computer typing anything. No PM's and definitely no Emails phone calls only.

A big part of aging is mental. Sure, physical prowess fades, aches and pains develop but if you psychologically put yourself in a wheelchair then there is no coming back from that imo. Suffer with your aches and pains and be glad the gophers aren't delivering your mail...yet. Positive mental attitude and being pragmatic about aging are wildly important as you do, and keeping in shape and your weight down is so important too.

I can't read this thread.
Looked at a few of the posts and guys my age were slowing down a bit.
I don't need any help slowing down from what I use to do, .... I already feel it.

So, I will do as much as I can, as long as I can ...... until I can't ( and would advise others to do the same).

Six years ago I could out walk everyone I knew, now I can't outwalk anyone.
I went to the Orthopedic since I posted the last time, went for my knees, and he told me I wasn't a good candidate for replacement because of lumbar issues. Neuro. and spine ortho say no more back surgeries, talk about rock and a hard place.
I'm probably going to try a chiropractor for the knees, and am still up in the air for what to do about sciatic nerve.
I haven't even thought about the numbness in my hands yet.
I hate that for you! On the sciatica nerve, I had the pins put in, would not do it again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Why? I can't feel any difference, the doctor said he had done about 800 of these. Knees? I had both replaced last year, left was a partial and the right a full replacement. These have helped a lot, still have pain but I kind of expected it. 71 years old and striving to be the 6 million dollar man! Hips and shoulders are next! Going for another injection on the right Monday. As the saying goes "getting old ain't for wussies!

I never intended to revile this much about myself and I'm sure other members didn't either. However here we are and in spite of the things we may not agree on, here we are trying to help those who are just finding out that yes just as the duke said in one of my favorite movies that "getting old ain't for sissies".

I guess one of the most important things I can say is very simple and 100% up to you, ... you are the only one who can decide if you are going to win here or if you are going to lose, ... not a doctor not anyone but you are in control of how you will live the rest of your life.

My dad and 2 of my uncles nearly died in a Whippet pickup when they were young kids, the family was going to visit some relatives but there was no room in the cab so the three boys rode in the back, grandpa had covered the bed with a tarp because it was raining and the boys were overcome by exhaust fumes. Dad always wanted a Whippet but never had the extra money to spend on one.
