It looked like a 7-08 to me.....

It looks like any other Ackley style improved case - less body taper, steeper shoulder angle. The neck itself looks longer. It doesn't ruffle my feathers.

Somebody is gonna be pissed they dropped one of these fancy cases under a bench. Only one there today. About .015 shorter than that right side case. What's the point?

WOW! Put yer thinkin' caps on.

First, weight for weight, a 7mm can get much higher BC's than a .30 cal. Meaning 180 VLD's, ELD-M's have higher BC's than the same 180 gr. weight bullet in .308. If you go with heavier bullets in a .308, you lose velocity.

Second, the reason it's shortened is because you need that extra little bit of room to seat super high BC bullets out farther where the ogive isn't down in the neck.

Third, the bullets need to be within a given OAL because if they aren't they won't fit current action lengths.
You and I could jump right to a long action, but can the military? No....they can't. They've built everything around one action length, 2.8".

Look at the thickness of the rim , it looks like the old candidates for a better 7.62-51 for the military.

Some comparison data......both once fired, primer in, not sized.

I don’t have one, but I live about 30 minutes from their HQ. Clayton won the whole NRL Hunter shebang with it last year.

A longer neck, a small primer, sharper shoulder and shorter case. To say it’s no better than the original is a bit narrow minded.

Nope, not the Simpsons Good Little Cartridge.
All the SGLC is, is a 7mm-08 improved with 40° shoulder.
You could say 7mm-08AI, but Ackley never did anything with the 7mm-08 cartridge.
I wasn't calling it a Simpson clone. The point is many have been down the 7mm-08 road and there's not much difference in performance between most of them.i just mentioned an early one.

"All the SGLC is, is a 7mm-08 improved with 40° shoulder"
It predates the 7 mm-08 by the way.so you are a bit wrong.the 7-08 is a sglc with shallower shoulder is more accurate
I'm going by memory not Google BTW.

And that same reasoning would apply to a 6.5, and thus the Creedmoor was born.

As a long time 7mm guy, I loved my 7-08. I am IN LOVE with my 7-08AI. Some of it is just me, but I am getting very close to 280 Rem performance in a 20" barrel with the 7-08AI. It just shoots.
I still love the 7-08 and will probably replace the one I let go, even though I have the 7-08AI. I did get rid of the 280 though.

What about the over looked 7mm IHSMA International ? Shorter case based on the 300 Savage. 38° shoulder. About the same as the Creedmoor cartridge. Which surprised me that I haven’t heard of anyone doing a Creedmoor in 27 or 28 caliber.

Yes. But, those implementing the round didn't garner enough support in accessories. Meaning the 6mm and 6.5mm don't feed well from any known magazines. It may only be a follower, but try finding one. This cartridge supposedly has the same taper as the .308/7mm-08.
