IS THIS SAFE???

I accidentally poured imr4451 in varget. I carefully spooned the top inch out of the jug. I shot it at low charge weights for varget with light bullets.

Now for the cover your butt disclosure: reloading is dangerous doing everything correctly. Mixing powders could easily win you a Darwin award.

What everyone says is correct. Dump it and eat your loss.

That said, a good number of people have experimented with mixing powders over the years for very specific applications. They know what they are doing and have a good grasp of the potential impact. I wouldn't be comfortable doing so. Here is one article:

Yup, one can on the bench at a time! After 20 or so years I got lazy and didn't follow the rule, guess what, ended up throwing out a pound or so of powder. The rules are there for a reason! Just my experience.

The official answer is NO. That answer might be qualified if you put a teaspoon of of the one in an 8 lb jug of the other; if you had a pressure test gun in a ballistics lab, if you could use a dissecting microscope to pick out all the little sticks from the little balls, etc. but the official answer is NO.

I always hear its good fertalizer but is that really a thing or just an old wives tale (or old reloaders tale in this case) Dusty just said it kills stuff anyone else try it?

Smokeless powder is high in nitrogen (as is blackpowder). And nitrogen is the primary nutrient in modern fertilizer. So, no, it's not an old wives tale.

The reason it can easily kill plants is because of overuse. Dilute it sufficiently and it will make a fine fertilizer. Apply too much and it will "burn" whatever you're trying to grow.

Powder is hard to find, I get why you would want to salvage it in some way but once powder is mixed it becomes an unknown, I’d toss it. Something like is never worth the risk, take the loss, chalk it up to experience and full steam ahead.
