IS THIS SAFE???

I mistakenly put unused Benchmark powder in a can of BL-C(2). This can is now useless or is it? Can l use this powder combination to safely fire form brass in low charge weights? I would do this utilizing the cream of wheat method, or something similar. Thanks for your input!

Take the time to screen the two powders out-separate then you might use each batch for low level plinking or fire forming loads. BUT, BL-C is a double based powder and some of the nitro can leach into the Benchmark. End result is burn rate of both powders has changed. Changed to what? Use it for lawn fertiliser and prevent an ulcer or worse.

That sinking feeling in one's gut after a teachable experience... Good thing you caught it. One of the rules that my mentors hammered into my thick skull was:

One can of powder on the bench at a time.

I had to laugh at your statement "I mistakenly put unused Benchmark powder"
I dont think anyone has Used Benchmark powder.

If you saw an alligator with a 100 dollar bill in his mouth would you reach in and try to take it.
Is the reward worth the risk?
Not in my universe.

One of the first cardinal rules of reloading is to NEVER mix powders of different brands / types.

This should be discarded - period. Take it as a learning experience - the more costly the mistake the less likely you have of repeating it.

Also - NEVER keep more that one container of powder on top of the loading bench while you're reloading.

I suppose there would be some rules on "TAKE" other wise no problem

It sure is.....garbage.
I've been reloading since 1963. I only have the powder I am currently using on the bench. I don't leave powder in a dispenser. It goes back into the ONLY can on the bench. Overkill?
Beats being killed. I really pick the time I'm going to reload as I will finish what I'm reloading. Sure a lot for me to reload would be 50 rounds, much less than most. Maybe for 2 different cartridges but I pick the time I know I can finish. This is MY hobby and I've had a heck of a run. I want to keep it that way.

First off every can of powder ive ever dumped out killed everything in site so use it like roundup. Second of all avoid the cream of wheat when fireforming. Its not needed and will cause nothing but issues up to a blown gun. No good can come of it
Hey Dusty, can you expand on c.o.w. blowing up guns, im genuinely interested- I've done 150 6mm ai brass and it was a learning curve- I'm curious what the cause of the blow ups are? Incorrect powder/charge? Barrel obstructions?

Thanks
