Is this REALLY the new norm!?

Not if it compounds which is what happens when a hyper-inflation cycle starts. Read the history of the Germany Mark after WWI. How long can the US dollar sustain runaway spending with multi-trillions of dollars of debt. It's unsustainable. At some point there has to be a reconciliation.
That is compounded. Unless you compound daily, at a 7% daily inflation rate, not an annual.

A few years ago I started muzzleloaders that ran on Blackhorn 209(think of a .50 cal 330 grain bullet at 2,380fps) and it was almost $30 for a 10oz bottle. Hodgdon recently bought them and the price is now $70 a bottle and they are now 8oz bottles or 20% less for over double the price, so $140 a pound.
That comes out to 7,000 grains at 120 grains per shot = 58 shots $140/58 = $2.40 per shot then add almost $2 per bullet....who would have thought muzzleloading was a rich mans sport ?

The spending( no congressional fiscal year budget since 09/10 Obama administration) is nothing compared to the Fed printing trillions a month and sending to banks AROUND the world. Remember old Joe and the Obama carry overs left 150 BILLION worth of state of art military equipment in Afghanistan. And is desperately trying to reduce our military preparedness by shipping billions in supplies to Ukraine and draining our oil reserves(after Trump build them up after Obama drained them). All of this while using discretionary spending to drop the dollars value and trigger inflation. And arming thousands of Federal employees.

Ok, I'll yield.

PS: Just read some case histories on macroeconomics of hyperinflation. It's not linear, it can double and triple, etc. in a short amount of time once the monetary policy collapses. In other words, the inflation rate escalates as monetary policy begins to fail.
And that is exactly what happened to Germany after WW I. Hyperinflation.

7% rate of inflation, takes 10 years for prices to double.
Not sure if I entirely agree with this. I think it really depends on the commodity. In the last year we saw powder go from around $25/lb to $50/lb, that's a 200% increase. Primers went from around $25/brick to $100/brick, that's a 400% increase! Sadly, both are still slowly increasing in cost.

First, There is a difference between a rate of inflation which is based on a basket of goods, and taking one item. If you say a rate is "x", then the rest is plain math.
Second, going from 25 to 50, its not 200%, its 100%. Again plain math.
Don't take my word ofr it, pick up a Econ 101 book.

It's matter of priorities with a hobby.
Sure, it's more expensive to shoot now than it was years ago, but most waste more on worthless stuff than yeas ago.
Both the wife and I shoot. We go maybe once a week to play/practice and once a month for an F-Class match. That runs us between $300 and $400 a month at current prices.
Being retired that digs deep. I do have some older supplies but need to replenish to keep a year or two on hand. SOoo, we cut back on some other areas.
Just completed a Midway Birthday order, and a sizable (for me) orde from PowderVally (the real website), and another scope. Have a little left in my 2023 COLA.
We eat at home, mostly, and don't go to the movies.
Might go see Avatar 2 since it's in 3D. Avatar 1 was probably our last outing. Just think of how much I save on popcorn making it at home :)
When I order I watch prices. Make a big order and Hazmat is basically divided by the number of items you order. Or, make a group buy with a few friends.
For a while we were buying guns. It was a I like this, she liked that. Gunamonth and we took turns.
Our current favorites are a pair of Kitchen built AR's. $1000 or less each not counting optics.
I don't have a favorite gunsmith, don't buy the best reloading equipment money can buy, but I do spend lots of hours reloading. My labor is part of my hobby.

I wonder just how high prices need to be for us to stop shooting.

I know reloading components have been hard to find, especially if you are looking for specific powders and primers. I'm not a hoarder but do have enough to keep shooting as I don't shoot as often now as I use to. I must say though that I do buy when the opportunity presents itself, especially when unicorn items are staring me in the face :). Well, I had an opportunity today and my jaw just dropped! I knew prices were high but come on!!! I was at Sportsman's Warehouse earlier and they actually had some good powders in stock. Needless to say, even with the outrageous price, I did pick up a pound of H4350 and two sleeves of CCI 41 at $8/ sleeve, which is the max they will let you buy per day.

IMO....The phrase "New N_ _ _ _ l" is something that was miracled into existence by leftist victims about the plandemic. Using the phrase is a form of acceptance ( rolling over in obedience).

If I never hear this phrase ever again it will be too soon !!!!!

This is the new regime, IMHO, as I believe this is not driven by money supply, but a lack of labor supply. People haven't gone back to work due to a number of reasons, most of which are not Government subsidies (easy retirement, lack of health, child care, etc.). That is on top of a collapsing demographic pyramid, where there aren't enough Gen Z workers to replace all the retiring baby boomers. Even worse, those Gen Z workers don't want to take on the hard dirty jobs or skilled labor, so manufacturers, are either cutting back production or raising prices.

Once the price feedback loop moves through the commodity markets and into the value added goods (which ot has), the prices become very entrenched and difficult to change. The only way this changes is by moving to a big recession or depression, where the supply and demand cycles functionality reset.

Just one guy's view.

I can take my ancient Savage Model 3, iron sights and half a brick of 22LR and shoot all day for $0.07/round. Or I can ride my M/C half a day for same cost. There is no way I am shooting high power rifles for fun right now. Just shoot confirm zero, harvest annimal, put away. But I think I am the exception. So many people will pay anything to keep shooting, and it is great that option exists.

what is the reason to arm federal employees?
